I am getting concerned and did a quick look and see no one here is talking about the Storm coming your way on the East Coast. They are talking the potential for 40/50 feet waves in less than 60 hours in some areas. Looks like a lot of 20 foot waves for sure.

For educational purposes.

Not much time to make necessary preps if right. They are talking potential from VA to Nova Scotia and North. Winds possible up to 85MPH with the incoming
NorEaster. If it moves in closer it is likely going to be worse for many.

Let other's know, and do what you need to do to stay safe. Gas, Food etc. Heavy snow possible over next couple of days. Pay close attention to your local weather forecasts.

Nice in Phoenix bu,t we need more rain.

AF,

I always miss the big waves when we go on cruises. My wife would not like that at all.

Not sure I would like to be on/or near the coast with that rolling in onto land.

Here is a site for more information on the storm,

https://twitter.com/RyanMaue

Here is where they are sending Jim Cantore

MY first choice to cover this storm is #Halifax, NS, but I'm being sent to Chatham. See you there.

Is the water still cold enough to need a wetsuit where you are?

I'd say so. N.C. ocean temp. should be in the 50's this time of year. Then again asurfaholic might have migrated from your neck of the woods.

Hope the conditions hold up.

This will be an "in between" set.

I'm checking the forecast for my town now. I knew there was a snow storm coming but I haven't heard that there will be anything out of the ordinary other than the fact that its going to be 6-8 inches and its almost freaking April. If there's any danger I'm currently unaware.

The forecast is still changing but looks like coastal MA will be hit the hardest.

I was OK when they were heading into the waves, but that one cut about a minute or so in (still under the 'good' part) where they were taking waves almost abeam had my gut clenching. I was more bothered by the "good" waves abeam than I was by the "ugly" waves head on.

I'm in Eastern LI. I checked weather.com and while we're getting snow, it didn't look like it would be exceptionally bad.

Awww look, how cute! It's a miniature wave! :D

In Hawaii, that would be called a "seven foot wave." on the East Coast, it would be called a "twelve foot wave." I don't know whether CA measures the face or the back...

..And in Florida it's a 20 foot wave.

I would call that two foot overhead, maybe head and a half.

The height of the face of the wave, after the lip has crashed.

its just the difference in swell structure....

west coast/everywhere else the ocean swell doesn't hit a continental shelf that is shallow water all the way up the coast for 100 miles out. the area is known for its shipwrecks in the area. http://uwex.us/northcarolinashipwrecks.htm

my area in particular with names like cape fear and other shallow points has earned the nickname of graveyard of the Atlantic

the big waves from the big storms out here have been breaking for a ways out.

LOTS of energy is lost. a 12 foot wave to us is literally how tall the wave is.

BTW.. i don't even know if im gonna get a good wave.. i haven't looked into it. normally nor-easters just get nasty weather and wash out the good spots...

Nothing more dangerous than trying to change heading out of the wind under conditions like that, which is what it looks like they were trying to do.

That's when you have to use the 3 - 3 - 3 rule and time your shit just right.

Why didn't you tell me that before?

A good peak.

There aren't any good peaks in this whole shitty country.

It's all goddamn beach break.

Sadly, it appears that I will be driving to NJ next week to do a bunch of Arby's installs and train others how to do them. I will not be surfing.
