Armed man goes to Manchester Airport “to spread the message of liberty”

Normally I don't post entire articles. This time when I tried to read the article, I was told it was behind a paywall. That annoyed me so here's almost the whole article.

MANCHESTER – On Thursday morning, the liberty activists at FreeKeene.com blasted out an email alerting media to an armed man roaming through Manchester-Boston Regional Airport.

The armed man, Liberty Carrots, stood in the airport terminal, carrying a Mosin-Nagant bolt-action rifle and handing out newspapers critical of the TSA.

“Most people were really receptive,” said Carrots, a member [participant, not member] of the Free State Project. “People were laughing and stuff. It wasn’t alarming.”

Carrots said police followed him throughout the airport as he wandered from terminal to terminal looking for folks willing to hear his message.

“I walked the whole airport,” Carrots said. “I went everywhere you can go.”

Carrots said he was immediately approached by security personnel at the airport and given a few ground rules. Carrots said authorities told him he could remain in the airport as long as he did not disrupt the flow of foot traffic through the terminals.

Carrots said he began debating with the guard, who he believed was trying to limit his Constitutional rights.

“He said, ‘it’s not up for conversation,’ ” Carrots said.

Carrots said he only went to the airport armed to “spread the message of liberty” and normalize the sight of an armed man in an airport with passers-by.

“There’s nothing wrong exercising your rights,"...

Thursday’s demonstration isn’t the first time members [the FSP doesn't have members] of the Free State Project have protested at the airport. In 2012, two Keene protestors stripped down to their underwear in the airport as they protested TSA strip searches.

If anyone is wondering, yes you may carry at the airports, police stations, courthouses, bars, churches, government offices, hospitals and schools in NH. I'm not a lawyer so that isn't legal advice ;)

I don't personally support wearing rifles at the airport. Still, it might discourage some anti-gun people from moving to New Hampshire so it isn't all bad - unlike anti-gun people.

Open Carry and Free Speech Activism at the Manchester Airport

On the morning of March 20th, 2014, Liberty Carrots, N. Jones, R. Kahan and I went to the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport to support the First and Second Amendments to the United States Constitution. Joe was the creative star of this activism effort, stopped multiple times by airport security and threatened with arrest for handing out free copies of the monthly liberty newspaper FPPNews from Free Press Publications.

No airport security agents or police questioned the fact that Carrots was open-carrying a rifle. They did, however, take great issue with our exercise of free speech and expression:

Here is the newspaper he keep trying to hand to people. It is FPP.CC News, a newspaper out of Keene, New Hampshire. He didn't seem very successful as the police claim you cannot hand out stuff at the airport (is this a rule designed to prevent Hare Krishna airport flowers?).

I'm not sure how good this activism is... The best use of it seems that it scares statists from wanting to move to/ live in New Hampshire. People have brought up that point several times on this Forum. How do you discourage statists from moving to NH and enjoying all of the freedom? Here you go.

What happens when you exercise your rights at the Manchester airport

I’m always excited to read the latest edition of FPP.cc News. Yesterday morning, a few friends and I thought the passengers might enjoy reading the message of liberty after their complimentary molestation, so we went to the airport to hand out some papers.

John Adams, Facilities Director at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, did not like the fact that I was handing out free newspapers to passengers. I handed out about five newspapers when Mr. Adams approached me with three cops following behind him. He was very rude, told me that I had to get a permit, stand in one of the two designated soliciting areas (at either outside end of the terminal), and stop handing out material. When asked if I could talk to other people in the public areas, I was told “no,” and the conversation was over. He refused to answer my questions, and refused to talk with me for the remainder of my visit. Hey, I figured he really must be some big-shot if he can override the Constitution. What authority does this man have that he thinks he can control individuals with his voice? That’s right … “Facilities Director.”

Apparently, the debate wasn’t over. My first act of defiance toward this petty tyrant was to simply to start waving and wishing passengers a safe flight. Hmmm, nothing happened. Maybe this dog was more bark than bite.

After establishing that the airport was public property, yet being told several times that I was not free to be free — end of story — I started asking what would happened if I continued on my heinous crime spree. The debate wasn’t over and finally when asked I was told “If you interfere with the flow of passengers, you’ll be arrested.” SWEET!!! Back to passing out newspapers!

Credit where credit is due, Mr. Adams directs a lovely building. He was even kind enough to provide police escorts for us, the rest of our time in the building. The officers following us around told us they were instructed to follow my every move because I was also exercising my Second Amendment right by carrying a rifle. They seemed to be the only ones alarmed. A lady even came up to me laughing while saying, “You know you are in New Hampshire.”

While I walked around the airport, I wondered: how much taxpayer money goes to Mr. Adams? How can someone in charge of such an operation be totally unaware of the Constitution? It’s really not that hard to figure out. Individuals have a right to assemble and express themselves on public property. That’s it. Mr. Adams was very upset that his words and policies could not stop people determined to exercise their rights.

What happens when you exercise your rights at the Manchester airport? They order you to stop, they harass you, they intimidate you, and they follow you around. Since it’s obvious people are so confused it’s important to stand up and clear things up a bit. Yes, I like the Manchester Airport. I think I’ll go back.

It looks like http://capitalismisfreedom.com picked this up, but it's mostly just a copy and paste.

I support and would fight for his right to do this, but I also think it was stupid and counterproductive.

Fixed. Armed men in airports are common.

Northeast Shooters has an 11 page thread on this issue. Some of the folks there also aren't happy about this type of activism. Though, most are supportive. Some interesting reading over there.

Why?

Why?

I don't open carry in general. Open carrying in an airport could cause goons to open fire on you. I know I've been yelled at for parking to pick someone put at the airport before.

I mean, who carries rifles at the airport? Soldiers and wanna be soldiers that also work for the government, pretty much.

Which is why "normalization" activism like this is so neccesary.

Good for him!
