Amazing. A 10-minute spot on Hardball dedicated to talking about Rand Paul, and there was hardly anything negative in it at all. If I were an average uninformed viewer I think I would have come away from that segment with a more positive view of Rand Paul than I started with. They may not agree with Rand but they all were so impressed with his political skills and cross-appeal that it came off positively. I'd have to agree.

It's interesting that even the shills on that panel say that the GOP establishment will never allow Rand Paul to be the GOP nominee. You can almost see it already, the GOP establishment will go out of their way to get anyone else to be nominee then go back to praising Rand Paul in order to get him to campaign for them.

Awesome segment -

Halperin's comment that he doesn't think Rand can win bc the establishment is afraid of him was a bummer though. I'd feel better if he (Halperin) said that bc he personally thinks Rand is too "extreme" or whatever... That he genuinely seems to respect him and even sounded sorry to share with Matthews that the establishment ain't going to let it happen makes the statement a little bit harder to ignore.

Halperin is a sneaky bastard. He co-wrote that book Game Change, and virtually ignored Ron Paul in it.

I can't wait to see all the pictures of Ron Paul consulting the president in 2017!

Halperin is not a shill. If you toss around pejoratives so carelessly, they lose all meaning.

When Rand won his election, the MSNBC panel beat the crap out of him, but Matthews bowed out and didn't say a bad word about Rand on election night.

Remember Matthews used to be a Goldwater guy

Matthews also at one point acknowledged that Rand's argument against the CRA was legitimate. Can't find the clip of it.

As a private citizen?... or as a cabinet member? :D

And one more for good measure :)

Matthews also took Jack Conway to the wood-chipper 2 weeks before the 2010 election. #ThisIsWhyTheyPayHimTheBigBucks lol

Yeah right now Rand Paul kind of reminds me of Maximus in Gladiator. The establishment are like Commodus because he hates Maximus and wants him dead, but the people love him so much that Comomdus can't do anything to him right now, but secretly they are trying to find a way to end him.

it would be as a private citizen. In 2012 Rand said that if his father won the presidency his (Rand) title would have been unofficial advisor to the president thus it makes sense that Ron would serve the same role if his son wins the presidency.

Matthews alludes to it here (scroll down a little for the video):
