Buying elections is so out in the open these days...

Through his political advocacy firm, FWD.us, billionaire Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is now playing a role in GOP primaries.

Starting Tuesday, Zuckerberg’s FWD.us’s “Americans for a Conservative Direction” arm—a group aimed at trying to help Republicans stave off conservative opposition to amnesty—is spending $150,000 to help Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-NC) fight off primary challenger Frank Roche after she stumbled through an interview on Laura Ingraham’s radio program last week.

Zuckerberg’s decision to get involved in GOP primaries is not surprising, though this appears to be the first time his group is playing on that field. FWD.us has run ads backing pro-amnesty GOP lawmakers, ranging from Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) to House Budget Committee Chairman Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) to Rep. Mike Coffman (R-CO), among others.

We had some good threads on Zuckerberg's shenanigans on the board a ways back. It's weird that I was just reminded of those when specs brought up the H1-B in the other thread.

Straight out of the neoconservative playbook. Always put some variation of "America" in your fake organization's name.

Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-N.C.) is getting a boost on air from the conservative arm of the Mark Zuckerberg-backed group advocating an overhaul of the immigration system.

Americans for a Conservative Direction is a subsidiary of FWD.us, the group backed by Facebook founder Zuckerberg that has been pushing immigration reform efforts on Capitol Hill. The conservative affiliate has launched ads backing GOP lawmakers such as Reps. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin and Mike Coffman of Colorado, and Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida who favor some kind of immigration reform.

FWD.us also has an affiliate focused on progressives and independents, called the Council for American Job Growth, that released an ad earlier this month that blasted House Republicans for dragging their feet on immigration reform.

I don't think Ellmers or Tillis bringing up amnesty will help them. I hope Zuck made sure he used different front groups for Hagan and Ellmers. If someone bothers to google the names they will find 9 out 10 of the first page of results has them supporting amnesty. The only link showing Tillis opposing amnesty is his own campaign page. This should be good for Brannon though. The more fighting there is between NC Republicans on amnesty is good for his campaign.

This is what Zuckerberg did for Red state Senators in July 2013 who voted for Rubio's bill. No mention of Immigration reform. Graham, Manchin, Begich and others got them.
