"The UK minister for immigration and security, James Brokenshire has called for the government to do more to deal with 'unsavoury', rather than illegal, material online. 'Terrorist propaganda online has a direct impact on the radicalisation of individuals and we work closely with the internet industry to remove terrorist material hosted in the UK or overseas,' Brokenshire told Wired.co.uk in a statement."

Since the US just gave up more control of the internet (Domain Names), this will have a direct impact on everyone. It hasnt even been a single day since I read the story of the US giving up control in which we predicted this exact thing would occur.

So much for Free Speech.

What it means is that if the UK gets its way, sites like Ron Paul Forums will be shut down because they are considered "Unsavory". This is why I didnt put it in Foreign Policy and instead, General Politics as it can directly affect us here on the Forums...

So we won't be seeing any UK web sites anymore?

So we won't be seeing any UK web sites anymore?

This also affects the US, not just the UK. WORLD Wide Web.

We may not see ANY websites that oppose the view of the Status Quo. Almost everything said can be interpreted by someone, somewhere as "Offensive" or "Unsavory".

Dont think too much about right now, think about the Future. In 50 years, would any statement made anywhere need to be subjected to approval before being put online? How far can and will the limitations of Free Speech go? The continual demands to Filter information when they are catered to can only lead to a completely Filtered internet.

The powerful will retain the ability to express what ever they want to express, while the opinions of those without power will be subject to approval by those with power.

So much for Free Speech.

A free internet is a threat to all of the major power structures. We were just entering an age of alternative news, education, commerce, ideas, currency, agriculture, etc.

My first reaction to reading that was alarm.
