Ben Swann’s Truth in Media Project Submits FOIA and NH RSA 91:A Requests to Town of Bedford

On Tuesday, March 11th, voters in Bedford, New Hampshire will go to the polls to elect town officials and decide on budget measures. Two of the candidates, Aaron Day for School Board and Matt Philips for Town Council, have come under attack by a local real estate developer.

On February 21, 2014, the following YouTube video of Bill Greiner was posted on YouTube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxFzHC01fW4, in which he draws attention to the fact that Day and Philips are associated with the Free State Project, and makes several other inaccurate and misleading statements.

Greiner rejected an invitation to meet to discuss the inaccuracies in the video. Subsequently, numerous concerned Bedford residents have approached us regarding alleged questionable business dealings, intimidation, and unethical behavior in town.

We suspect that the Free State Project is not the real issue or concern and that this is simply an attempt at misdirection away from other activities that are going on at the state and local levels. The Free State Project isn’t a political party, it is simply an effort to attract to the state of New Hampshire more people who already resonate with the New Hampshire “Live Free or Die” spirit. I encourage you to research this yourself at http://www.freestateproject.org More importantly, as individuals, I encourage you to speak with us directly and research what we have actually done.

The silent majority in Bedford values limited government, lower taxes, and local control, but have often been drowned out by a small faction of insiders and well-funded organizations that have been pushing a personal, economic agenda in town over the past decade.

The Bedford Taxpayers Association (BTA) endorsed Aaron Day for School Board and Matt Philips for Town Council. Separately, they declined to endorse the proposed $30 million road bond. At the Town Council meeting on February 26, Town Councilor Jim Scanlon blamed us for the BTA’s decision to not recommend the road bond. Aaron Day is running for school board and has made no comment on the road bond. Matt Philips is running for town council and in his public debate and his interview on “Tell it Like it Is” has indicated support for the road bond. This is questionable behavior for a sitting Town Councilor. We have put together the following 3 clips from the last town council meeting. We have a number of questions regarding both the practice of some of the Town Councilors as well as some of Greiner’s business dealings as they relate to property taxes.

The escalation of the attacks against us through print, newspaper, television, private e-mails, and phone calls has spurred Ben Swann’s Truth in Media Project to submit a FOIA Right-to-Know Request to the Town of Bedford, NH.

The following is an excerpt from the request:

Is something rotten in the Town of Bedford?
Kimberly Morin

http://www.examiner.com/article/is-something-rotten-the-town-of-bedford

Tomorrow there is a local election in the quiet town of Bedford, NH. What would normally be just another town election has turned into a side-show of ‘mad men’. For some unknown reason Bill Greiner (a former elected official and a man who apparently does business with the town) has decided to attack candidates running in the town elections: Aaron Day for the School Board and Matt Philips for Town Councilor. Greiner isn’t attacking them on issues. He’s actually refused to speak with either candidate about the issues even when they offered. He’s produced a video in which he spews lies and makes some pretty crazy claims about candidates he doesn’t even know. If you watch the video, it’s obvious Greiner is lying and he knows it.

It appears something is rotten in the Town of Bedford. Why would a man who isn’t running in any town election smear candidates rather than debate them on the issues if he disagrees with them? Both Day and Philips have spoken in many forums on the issues and spoken with many voters. It appears it’s only Greiner’s specific crowd dubbed as the ‘Bedford Bullies’ who are choosing to personally attack the men. It’s questionable as to why really. That reason may be uncovered soon as Ben Swann, investigative journalist of the Truth in Media Project, has filed a Freedom of Information Act request to see if there are indeed reasons Greiner is so hell bent on keeping Day and Phillips out of town politics.

A sitting Town Councilor who is also dubbed as one of the ‘Bedford Bullies’ has lied about Day and Phillips as well. Councilor Jim Scanlon, clearly one of Greiner’s minions, made some incoherent and false allegations that Day and Phillips somehow convinced the Bedford Taxpayers Association to be against a proposed $30 million road bond. He made these claims without ever talking to either Day or Philips to get their opinion. The Bedford Taxpayers Association supports both Day and Philips in their races so somehow Scanlon wrongly assumed (Day has made no statement since it’s not a School Board issue and Phillips has said he supports it) that they both agreed with the Association.

It’s unfortunate that voters have had to tolerate this type of behavior leading up to the election. It’s egregious that Greiner would try to cloud the judgement of voters with outright lies and outrageous smears. This is something usually seen at the national level in politics and most voters can’t stand it. It has no place at the town level (or any level of politics for that matter). Something seems rotten in the Town of Bedford. Its citizens and voters deserve better. It appears it’s time to ‘clean house’ a little.

James O’Keefe is the Founder and President of Project Veritas, a non-profit organization dedicated to developing a national network of effective and courageous undercover citizen journalists. O’Keefe’s groundbreaking investigations have exposed corruption and malfeasance in major taxpayer-funded institutions, including ACORN, Planned Parenthood, public education, labor unions, NPR, Medicaid, Organizing for America, State Election Divisions, Obamaphones, and many other organizations. And this crucial work continues.

O’Keefe’s undercover investigations have generated media firestorms that frequently prompt state investigations, federal inquiries, and congressional action. Most recently his investigations into Obamacare Navigators led to a Congressional hearing and two state hearings, leading to stricter rules being implemented in the State of Texas.Other investigations into entitlements have led to worker retrainings, firings and criminal investigations by authorities. Recently, O’Keefe’s voter fraud exposés inspired several states to reform their election laws, induced high-level resignations in Washington, and forcing FBI and Department of Justice officials to defend themselves before lawmakers.

Even the left-Nation wrote, “O’Keefe’s influence on voting rights opponents and legislators alike is particularly jarring.” Slate.com conceded, “O’Keefe has had more of an impact on the 2012 election than any other journalist.” And O’Keefe succeeded despite constant threats of legal action from embarrassed State Attorney Generals and relentless defamation from major media.

In 2013, O’Keefe authored The New York Times bestselling book Breakthrough: Our Guerilla War to Expose Fraud and Save Democracy, which tells the true story of subverting a corrupt and complacent media establishment, surviving many gratuitous legal challenges, and restoring truth to journalism by successfully pioneering a new form of guerilla reporting.

O’Keefe is a graduate of Rutgers University. A congressional resolution was introduced in 2009 with 31 cosponsors praising him for his work. He is the recipient of the Robert Novak Award for Journalistic Excellence (2011), has been named “Fox News Power Player of the Week” twice by Chris Wallace, and was placed on the Forbes 30 under 30 for media moguls.

Anti-FSP Hitpiece Mailer Sent to All Households in Bedford
March 10, 2014 by Ian
http://freekeene.com/2014/03/10/anti-fsp-hitpiece-mailer-sent-to-all-households-in-bedford/

More proof of how effective the Free State Project is: the political establishment has teamed up to attack the FSPers running for town council and school board.

A hitpiece mailer has gone out to every household in Beford in a direct mail campaign with a two-sided, full-color flier that likely cost thousands to print-and-mail. This, after the duo of Matt Philips and Aaron Day were attacked on cable access television and in online emails. It’s a nonstop attack against the FSP that merely vindicates further the strategy of combining activist efforts in one geographic area – the establishment is freaking out and the official move for the FSP has not yet begun!

I also love that the state-worshiping opposition has now paid to advertise the Free State Project to every household in Bedford. Awesome!!

If you love liberty, please join the Free State Project now and help us reach 20,000 participants sooner, rather than later so we can trigger the official move. Join the fun and the amazing community.
