Although a bit of an underdog, David is the real deal and has a ton of energetic supporters behind him. I really hope his campaign catches fire:

I think he needs to reach a certain threshold to get recognition from some of the bigger PACs, but if he did the guy would make an amazing senator.

IMO, this is significantly more newsworthy than merely being a straw poll. The votes were placed by NMGOP state party delegates at their pre-primary state convention. Frankly, it's what one would call an insurgent breakout session that sends shock waves into the hearts and souls of the establishmentarians and also shows what happens when liberty supporters engage themselves in party politics and don't quit. Sure is nice to see a groundswell of support building up to primary season. Just do something, stick with it and don't take no for an answer.

Apparently, Weh did a piss poor job as Chairman of the New Mexico Republican Party. He oversaw the biggest losses of his party in the state's history. He ran for governor in 2010, where he was crushed by then Doņa Ana County District Attorney Susana Martinez. Coincidently, David Clements is a Doņa Ana County Assistant District Attorney.

Weh sounds like a straight up NEOCON from from that article. I really was glad to hear about Clements.

For those interested here's his speech he gave before the convention:

Also here's a more in-depth interview he did a while back where he lays out his positions on issues:

Which is why I feel we're making a mistake overlooking this race simply because it's New Mexico. As much as we may not agree with some of Susana Martinez's decisions (Accepting Medicaid Money), she's popular, and will most likely win reelection. If she can organize a good turnout, the likelihood that those voters will in turn vote for Clements increases dramatically.

It's the reason Chris Christie didn't want the special election held for Lautenberg's Senate seat on Election Day. He thought Cory Booker would mobilize a high turnout of democratic voters who would not only vote for him, but also for Barbara Buono, and in turn lose the election.
