They are pansies. Unfortunately, they are pansies with guns and the blessing of "the state". This, my friends, is a problem.

I grew up differently, I guess. Lone Ranger, Batman, Spiderman, Phantom, etc. (signs of a misspent youth)

They look like bank robbers.

I find that insulting.

it may be almost true, but it is still offensive.

They look like bank robbers.

Don't go insulting bank robbers. At least they are honestly perfidious. These clowns own up to none of their wrongs.

Honorable men also don't become strongmen for hire.

I think some movie sometime mentioned that good guys have to wear masks too...

I think it was the remake of Lone Ranger.

"“Already a couple of the faithful have sent in checks for a foundation memorial to the innocents who perished at the hands of the ninja at Waco. … I have been criticized by referring to our federal masked men as “ninja” … Let us reflect upon the fact that a man who covers his face shows reason to be ashamed of what he is doing. A man who takes it upon himself to shed blood while concealing his identity is a revolting perversion of the warrior ethic. It has long been my conviction that a masked man with a gun is a target. I see no reason to change that view.”

In a world of omnipresent surveillance and political targeting, there's plenty of good reason for honorable men to hide their faces.

At the Boston Tea Party members dressed as Mohawk Indians and put on paint to disguise themselves.

I can understand in the top photo it appears to be to keep their faces warm. But the swat team wearing black masks is an absolute joke.

The funny thing is, when I read the thread title I thought it was going to be able some statist wanting to unmask everyone on the Internet (not that any of us are secret to the NSA anyway, but you know what I mean). For the same reason, I disagree with the thread title as an absolute statement: Context is everything, and sometimes underdogs up against incredibly more powerful adversaries need to remain as anonymous as possible. Pragmatic concerns have to be considered when your adversary is so much more powerful that any word or action against them requires a degree of courage. Hiding yourself when you're a mercenary of the almighty state and you have all the power in the world behind you is just cowardice though.
