CNN President Jeff Zucker has decided to bring an end to Piers Morgan's low-rated primetime show, network sources told POLITICO on Sunday. "Piers Morgan Live" could end as early as next month, though Morgan may stay with the network in another role.

Morgan, a former British tabloid editor, replaced Larry King in the 9 p.m. hour three years ago, prior to Zucker's tenure as president. His show earned consistently low ratings, registering as few as 50,000 viewers in the 25-to-54 year-old demographic earlier this week.

"CNN confirms that Piers Morgan Live is ending," Allison Gollust, head of CNN communications, told POLITICO on Sunday after an earlier version of this post was published. "The date of the final program is still to be determined."

Morgan told The New York Times on Sunday that the show had "run its course" and that he and Zucker "have been talking for some time about different ways of using me.” Sources who spoke to POLITICO said the decision to end the show was Zucker's.

Zucker took the helm at CNN at the beginning of 2013 and has since brought incremental change to the network, including revitalized news programs and a new emphasis on films and documentary shows. Primetime remains the one area where Zucker has yet to impliment substantive change, a new 10 p.m. roundtable program with Anderson Cooper notwithstanding.

In October, Zucker hired Nightline anchor Bill Weir from ABC News, raising speculation that Weir might replace Morgan in the nine o'clock hour. CNN sources denied those reports at the time.

Despite low ratings, Morgan drew national attention for his aggressive gun-control campaign following the Sandy Hook school shooting in Newtown, Conn. Morgan addressed the issue nightly for several weeks in late 2012 and early 2013 and hosted fiery, combative interviews with pro-gun adovcates like Alex Jones, a conservative conspiracy theorist.

I honestly wouldn't mind watching a Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich hosted show. Add in Kucinich to give it a "right/left" balance.

That show never fit, it would probably have done better on HLN after Nancy Grace. The reason Larry King was able to stay on for so many years is because he could get the interview with anybody. Not just tabloid celebrities, but heads of state. Only other person like that nowadays is Oprah.

Piers Morgan Admits Gun Control Advocacy Led to Show Being Axed

Decision sends clear message that Americans are rejecting networks acting as state media mouthpieces

Paul Joseph Watson

February 24, 2014

After his show was axed by CNN, television host Piers Morgan admitted that his relentless advocacy for gun control was the primary factor behind plunging ratings that led to the decision to shelve the broadcast, proving that Americans will not tolerate the establishment media undermining constitutional freedoms in concert with White House talking points.

Asserting that his show being canceled had nothing to do with recent revelations that he had been interviewed by police over the phone hacking scandal, Morgan admitted, “Look, I am a British guy debating American cultural issues, including guns, which has been very polarizing, and there is no doubt that there are many in the audience who are tired of me banging on about it.”

After taking over Larry King’s spot in January 2011, Morgan’s viewing figures have been on a steady decline, sinking to just 50,000 viewers among adults aged 25-54 for his February 18 broadcast.

Morgan undoubtedly attempted to capitalize on the unusually high ratings he enjoyed in the immediate aftermath of radio host Alex Jones’ appearance by continuously pushing the gun control angle.

Here's Jeremy Clarkson's response:

Jeremy Clarkson has suggested he is more than a little bit smug following the news that long-time rival Piers Morgan has had his prime time show dropped from CNN.

The Top Gear presenter, 53, took to Twitter this morning to comment on the US television network's decision to axe Piers Morgan Live.

He wrote: "I'm feeling strangely contented this morning. I wonder if something wonderful has happened somewhere."
He later tweeted: "I understand that Nigerian TV is looking for a new chat show host. Anyone got any suggestions?

"Hmm Morgan has told us for years that his ratings are sky high. So obv he wasn't sacked that reason. Why else could it be I wonder?"
The pair have been embroiled in a well-documented feud for more than a decade, following revelations about Clarkson's private life in the Daily Mirror when Morgan was editor.

In 2004, Clarkson punched Morgan in the face at the British Press Awards, which Morgan claims left him with a scar above his left eyebrow.

Responding to the announcement from CNN on Twitter today, Morgan, 48, posted a YouTube video of the Monty Python cast singing Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.

He later tweeted: "Humbling to bring such happiness to so many people today. Coming 3rd, as I've always said, is not a trophy. #MorganOut #CNN"

What this episode proves more than anything is that the largest corporatists in America don't care about their products or profits. Propaganda and power agendas are more important to them. They can and will destroy their companies and this nation, if for nothing other than personal vendettas.

On last night's Top Gear, when introducing the Stig, Jeremy made a comment that was something like: "Some say, he got such low ratings, his show got cancelled." ANd then again he mentioned him while interviewing Aaron Paul(Jesse Pinkman.)
