Campaign for Liberty calls for end in Pentagon’s “Slush Fund”
By Norm Singleton on February 18, 2014 in National Blog

Campaign for Liberty has joined with thirty-four organizations from across the political and ideological spectrum to call on Congress to cut the “Overseas Contingency Operations (OCO)” fund. This fund functions as a “slush fund,’ allowing the Pentagon bureaucrats complex to increase spending on the Military-Industrial complex above the already excessive amounts appropriated in the “official” Defense budget. The text of the letter is available here and below. Campaign for Liberty will continue to fight for real cuts, right now in all areas of government spending.

We are writing you today as a diverse coalition of organizations to express our shared disappointment at the continued use of a “slush fund” to circumvent the very spending caps that Congress itself put in place. Specifically, we are deeply concerned that the recently enacted omnibus appropriations bill (H.R. 3547, the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2014) shifted more than $10 billion from the Pentagon’s base budget accounts into the Overseas Contingency Operations (OCO) account.
