I had almost forgotten this case, this deputy left two police dogs in his patrol SUV for over 48 hours, he said he "forgot" about them. It says he's been on "administrative leave" since July 2012; it doesn't say, but I assume "paid" leave/vacation. They should just make him pay for the cost of the dogs, fire him, and call it good.

It would be even better if they just banned the use of dogs by the police, since they abuse them and allow them to inflict street justice maulings on "suspects." And also use them to give bogus "hits" to allow illegal searches.

Texas deputy indicted in deaths of 2 police dogs
| February 7, 2014

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — A South Texas sheriff's deputy has been indicted in the 2012 deaths of two police dogs allegedly forgotten in a hot patrol vehicle.

A Bexar (bayr) County grand jury on Thursday indicted Deputy Steve Benoy on misdemeanor animal cruelty charges. Online jail records Friday did not list Benoy, who's been on administrative leave since the July 2012 incident, as being in custody.

Investigators have said Benoy discovered the two Belgian Malinois (MAL'-in-wah) dogs dead in a county-owned SUV at his residence. Authorities believe the deputy drove home, parked the vehicle, went out and forgot to put the dogs in their regular quarters.

Mundanes who have killed police dogs have been charged with the murder of a deputy, as if it were a human being. Yep, great example of blind justice here.

Good ol' prosecutorial discression eh?

The dog can be "police property" or a "deputy" depending on the day of the week, the moon phase or whatever strikes the DA's fancy...

In this particular "case" what do ya' want to bet the dogs have no more value than a misplaced nightstick?

Same dogs different "perp" and poof instant major crime..
