View Full Version : Poll: What is your age?

PatriotOne
06-26-2007, 07:44 AM
This is a voluntary and private poll. Individual responses will not be visible.

I will be forwarding the results of this poll to Campaign Management after I gather the same info from various other places. I was not asked to poll this forum, but am doing this on my own. This type of information may be useful to them in the future.

Thanks for participating.

That's one of the reasons I am gathering the info....so they have something solid to cite and can respond to those accusations (assuming we aren't all 20-something :p ).

No offense 20-somethings! Wish I were 20-something :D

Maybe not as simple as age grouping,

but another poll defining

location by State would be very helpful to Campaign analytics also.

I was considering that one also. Problem here is the polls are limited to 10 responses. I suppose I could do one by region but not sure how helpful that would be. If I wanted to do it by state, I would have to make 6 different polls. Any better ideas for that?

I don't want to just have a running thread with people posting where they are from as some may feel reluctant (understandably) to divulge where they are from.

Yes, our inclusion of location (state) would be helpful, as some topics and issues may carry greater personal weight to some of us, depending on where we geographically are, and thus would possibly help others responding to these topics understand our specific geographic point of view.
I will amend my profile to show my state and age.

Actually, it's probably already constantly studied by the various Ron Paul Sites including this one (the forum).

Most web sites, have some sort of analytics in place. Usually Google analytics or Sitemeter. It can group your page visitors by location:
Continent, Country, State, City etc.

So the information is already in place and available. I know I posted my State rankings here at the forum a couple days ago concerning www.ronpaulaudio.com.

Maybe other RP sites could post theirs from time to time as it's of interest to all of us supporters and generates some enthusiasm as well?

So far, approximately 45% are at least 33 years old. Not many seniors reflected on this poll, but I bet they don't use the internet so much. The following might be a little top-heavy on the young side, but it is far from a mere union of college fraternities and sororities. :D

If I'm not mistaken, then you can vote in the primaries under the age of 18 as long as you'll be 18 by the real election. At least that's the way it works here in Virginia. For example, I'm also still 17 but I am already registered to vote because the age requirement is just that you're 18 by the next real election. I hope its the same case wherever you're from!

EDIT: Yes, I just checked and I was right. From the Virginia State Board of Elections website:
"Be 18 years old (Any person who is 17 years old and will be eighteen years of age at the next general election shall be permitted to register in advance and also vote in any intervening primary or special election)"

I encourage you to check your own state's equivalent website and see if they have the same rules before you give up on the primary.

I'm 44 years old, with a margin of error of plus or minus 5%.

467 individuals were polled, and asked about my age. Their responses were tabulated, and then adjusted using our proprietary DemoGraphiCon (TM) software which adjusts results based on what we think the respondants really meant, and what they should have reported based on their socioeconomic segment, race, religion, geographic location, and hat size.

If it's close enough for Harris and Rasumssen, it's close enough for me.

I'm not displease with the over the 32 years of age numbers on the poll, but I could make some guesses as to why the numbers might be lower:

Over 32 years of age:

Busy with jobs and 2 or more children and do not have the luxury of time on their hands for more than soundbites on MSM. Hopefully, they will make time for more research as the elections get closer.

Over 32 years of age individuals have been brainwashed longer than under 32 years of age :) .

Sadly, most people I know my age aren't politically active enough to understand or appreciate Paul's message, and many are on the Obama bandwagon when they don't know anything about him. They don't have an intricate enough understanding of how our economy works/ how our government is supposed to function. I was in a non honors history class(lazy there :P) and it shocked me how little people in there knew about anything related to history or politics. I actually heard things like "is Russia still communist?" and other questions on that level of cluelessness. The politically active people i know(im in Model UN and there are a lot of smart and politically knowledgable people in there) are voting Obama because they think he will do more to fight poverty and all that garb.

I am 28 and voted as such but I just want to point out that this although this is a good gauge of how old internet Ron Paul suppoters are, it won't help with the average age of Ron Paul supporters. For example, my dad supports Ron Paul and will be voting for him. He is 50 years old. He does not participate in online forums and doesn't use the internet in the way that I do. I think that is pretty typical of people in his age range.

I agree with what you are saying SlapiTHigh. What it is showing though is that the assertations that keep being lobbed that "Ron Paul internet supporters are just a bunch of highschool kids on the internet" is false. It still doesn't show the big picture, but it certainly dispels that myth and at least they can have something to point to when answering that accusation.

Bumping for some poll action.

BTW.................for those of you who are noting their age in a post, it makes me question whether you have seen the first post and are also clicking on the appropriate box or are just noting your age in the post.

From this point on, if you want to share your age in the post, if you could note that you also checkmarked the box in the poll, it would be helpful. It will save me the trouble of sending you a private message to clarify if you did or not.

Thanks

Please answer me this, why is it so hard for 9/10 of the people not to check? They must be interested or they would not have looked. If you say you don't like polls, why did you look here?

Maybe alot of the views are people who already voted and are just interested to see how the numbers are stacking up periodically. I know, I must have logged in at least 100 of the views myself ;)

Damn, I'm feeling old. I didn't know how young this crowd was. It explains a few things, though.

There're only 1525 total members here. Of those, 291 have voted in this poll. That's a higher percentage than voters for national elected officials and stuff.

How are views counted?

Last day for providing input for this poll. Please make sure you go to the first post on this thread to check the appropriate box (voluntary of course).

I will be forwarding this info to Campaign Management tomorrow so if you haven't participated and would like to do so, now is the time.

Thanks to everyone who has participated so far. The age spread here is very encouraging.

Here's a poll of people that use the net. A little reference to this poll. The shaded bars are for years 2000-2005

Did you set an expiration time for this poll?

I could possibly be the youngest voter here. :)

16

I'll be 18 by November 2008, which means (under Ohio law) I'll be able to vote on a candidates-only ballot for our primary in March.

I'm 15, so I get the prize. But in 6 days I'm turning 16. I can't donate, but I got each of my parents to donate $25.

This looks to be the youngest here.

Yet a non-voter unfortunately. He can donate in six days, though!

Is there a link to that poll? I would like to see where it came from and who did it. I may want to use it in the future for citations.

At 322 votes so far, many more votes could be cast in this poll. :D
