NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – An apparent popped tire caused quite a scare Monday in Manhattan, prompting authorities to close part of Lexington Avenue.

Police, firefighters and other first responders responded to reports of a possible explosion at an apartment building on Lexington Avenue in Kips Bay.

When they arrived, fire officials said they discovered that the so-called explosion was actually a tire on a dolly that blew during a delivery, WCBS 880′s Alex Silverman reported.

No injuries were reported.

Authorities had closed down Lexington between East 26th and East 27th streets as they investigated, but it was eventually reopened.

Last year the was a large sounding explosion. Not being one to call police I investigated. Turns out the neighbors had lit up some White Lightning. Of course not all neighbors are like me. The sheriffs department was shortly cruising the neighborhood. Nobody saw nothing. ;)

I grew up in a NYC that was not populated with nervous nellie ****. I remember when an Exxon office was bombed (FALN??), as well as Fraunces Tavern. Those got headlines, of course, but life went on and the "authorities" and more importantly the residents of the city were not in blind-freak-out mode.

NY was once at least a marginally respectable town. I carried a gun everywhere I went without a permit. No stop and frisk nonsense. I have to laugh at what has become of my home town - a den of sissies and cowards. I liked it when it was filthy and broken and broke and dangerous and the people there carried on with life. Freaks and pimps and dealers and whores and crazy people walking the same sidewalks as the wealthiest people on the planet. We tolerated each other because we all knew that the other held the same right to be where he was. Not any more. When that scab Giuliani became mayor he made short work of getting the message out that the niggrahs and other scum were to be relegated to their respective haunts and that the wealthy were taking back Times Square. He used the cops to affect the change and the City has not been the same since, the changes ALL for the worse, bar none.

I cannot fathom how people can stand living there anymore.

Well, look on the bright side ... if it ever comes to it, it should be a snap to completely paralyze and utterly discombobulate the domestic control authorites with zero casualties and no significant property damage ...
