Schumer (D-N.Y.) is planning to unveil "Avonte's Law" on Sunday, a day after 14-year-old Avonte Oquendo was laid to rest. The autistic teen disappeared from his school Oct. 4. His remains were found Jan. 16.

The tracking devices could be attached to wristwatches, affixed to ankle bracelets, clipped on belts, or woven into shoelaces.

"The program would be completely voluntary for parents and run by local law enforcement," a release from Schumer's office said.

This is just a pilot program that will be run by law enforecement.

Next time a normal kids missing tragedy happens, why not put tracks on them also.

Then for police to get an alert when children get too far away from their parents, put tracks on parents too.

Voluntary in first stage and then mandatory in next stage because it worked "so well".

For once would be nice if him or someone else starts "nabila rehman law" to protect grandmas of children from drone attacks him and other blood thristy SWCs support.

Ah-HA!

A bit more information after a bit of digging. Turns out the law isn't mandating the devices, it's mandating that the taxpayers PICK UP THE TAB for the devices:

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Sen. Charles Schumer says new legislation proposed in the name of Avonte Oquendo, the 14-year-old New York City boy who disappeared from his school and was found dead three months later, would fund voluntary tracking devices for children who have autism.

Schumer (D-N.Y.), accompanied by Avonte’s mother and grandmother, Sunday to announce “Avonte’s Law.” The legislation would create a program that provides tracking devices and expands support services for families with autistic children.

Schumer says it would be similar to a federal program that tracks seniors who have Alzheimer’s disease. The $10 million in funds would go to police departments, which would hand out the devices to parents who request them.

Yeah, like I said... it's mandating that the taxpayers PICK UP THE TAB for the devices.

I wonder how many GPS trackers the ten million would provide. Anyone with a smartphone can get tracking software for free.

"Voluntary." Right. Obviously.

Hence, the need for a law ...

IOW: It's "voluntary" for the people who use it - but NOT for the people who have to pay for it ...

Chuck Schumer, always finding a way to make a new law, and spend money.

Why not just give all these kids smart-phones, which are the exact same thing as a tracking device. We already have a program that doles out phones.

If the program is "completely voluntary" then why do you need a law? Let me guess, this is for "funding" the program? (Getting the skids greased for everybody else).

Because cell phones are not implantable.
