FreedomWorks, a national conservative political organization that has backed many tea party protests, on Tuesday endorsed businessman Matt Bevin in his primary challenge to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

The group's president, Matt Kibbe, told the Louisville Courier-Journal that FreedomWorks would spend up to $500,000 (http://www.courier-journal.com/article/20140122/NEWS01/301220041/-1/rsslink?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter&nclick_check=1) on the race, trying to help "distribute information, putting up yard signs, making sure voters in the primary learn about Matt Bevin."

While not a shock, FreedomWorks' announcement is the latest sign that McConnell will encounter problems on his right flank as he tries to stave off a primary challenger. Two other tea party-aligned groups, the Senate Conservatives Fund and the Madison Project, have endorsed Bevin. SCF is helping to raise funds for Bevin and released a television ad on his behalf.

Seems like they aren't choosing their battles wisely. Bevin has a lot of his own money too. A little to Brannon would help a ton more.

FreedomWorks is more about grassroots support than money dumping.

So what you're saying is they'd rather create some "grassroots support" with non-grassroots candidates, and wouldn't have much to offer for Brannon cause he already has it?

I still think that Freedomworks has done ad campaigns in the past, and could help Brannon out more than Bevin.

I don't think I've seen FreedomWorks' birth certificate. Who is that? Scwewy name to give a person.

I'm not arguing against helping out Brannon. I wish they would.

If you look at FreedomWork's spending history on OpenSecrets, they hardly ever make independent expenditures on the behalf of candidates.

Don't complain. ACT! Nominate Greg Brannon here: http://www.freedomworksforamerica.org/

The more votes Brannon gets, more the chances of getting a FW endorsement.

I doubt if they'd be investing this kind of money unless they knew Bevin has a good chance. The grassroots really came alive all over the state!
