The US Army is considering replacing thousands of soldiers with robots as it deals with sweeping troop cuts.

A senior American officer has said he is considering shrinking the size of the Army’s brigade combat teams by a quarter and replacing the lost troops with robots and remote-controlled vehicles.

The American military is still far from fielding armies of Terminator-type robotic killers though.

Ideas under discussion instead include proposals to see manned lorries and transporters replaced by supply trains of robots vehicles.

Generals are studying proposals as the US Army is to slim down from 540,000 to about 490,000 soldiers by the end of next year. Some reports suggest it could dip below 450,000 by the end of the decade.

at least they won't question orders or leak classified information.

And the Feds can throw millions of armed forces into the "jobless" category ... And these robots can't be witnesses, when the U.S. Government drones kill thousands of men, women and children; somewhere... wherever they feel like throwing their power behind.

This is great for the U.S.A. No witnesses ... normally they would kill the witnesses ... now the new "Can't ask, Can't tell" workforce.

No more Leaks. No more suicides, no more PSTD, no more insurance paid out to killed veteran families, no more VA bills. If the robot is destroyed it's just junk, it's how they treat veterans now anyway tossing veteran body parts in landfills.

And the more robots destroyed the more MIC needs to replace and repair $$$. It's a never ending demand for MIC. Sounds like a dream. And all the while it keeps us safe and keeps our human troops out of harms way. It's for the troops and it's for the children.

Probably just another half a million $ each boondoggle that can be disabled or destroyed with a well placed .45 slug.:p

Yea, or instead of wasting a bullet and a robot, they could all just be re-programmed for use by the enemy!

That also avoids the need for an expensive, high maintenance long-range military grade weapons delivery system.
What fun... It's even better than flipping a spy in order to provide the enemy with dis-info.

In a domestic setting, re-programing those robots for maximum pain and humiliation challenges will undoubtedly attract, motivate and amuse teenage code hackers and result in many YouTube videos.

"The wars of the future will not be fought on the battlefield or at sea. They will be fought in space, or possibly on top of a very tall mountain. In either case, most of the actual fighting will be done by small robots. And as you go forth today remember always your duty is clear: To build and maintain those robots."

And when they invade, they will be killing Real Human Beings.

Murder is still Murder.

I will believe it when I see it. Too many problems. Look at all the techy stuff that does not work in the field. Cold, hot, dust, oil etc.... One good electronic pulse gun will take out the whole army. Hacking into their little brains etc.....

I don't think we are technologically there yet.

That has been the fantasy for a very long time. In computerized wargames, units carry out the assigned mission to the last man. They never get lost. They never get tired. The higher you go up the food chain, the easier it is to forget the reality of what happens when people fight wars.

We're not as far off as some would think... what we should really be worried about is cybernetics... the merging of man and machine. Bio-weapons suits that are fully armored, like the Force 21 gear in development...

DARPA is already way ahead of game here... as soon as Boston Dynamics created their "Big Dog" DARPA bought the whole project...

You are assuming that the objective of all this is to create actual, working "robot troops." That is not the case.

The objective is to divvy up booty and plunder among Pentagon contractors and other "playas" with MIC connections.

We will never achieve World Peace so long as we serve Govts that aspire to achieve or control the ability to destroy their enemies in every possible way.
