It's time to press the "reset" button on the world, the founder of the World Economic Forum said Wednesday, addressing media ahead of the WEF's much ballyhooed annual meeting in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, that gets underway in a week's time.

"The world is complex, it's fast-moving, it's interconnected, and we in Davos want to provide a mirror to the world as it is. It is not a meeting devoted to one set of issues. It's a meeting that address the complexity of our world," said Klaus Schwab, the WEF's founder and executive chairman.

Schwab was speaking as part of efforts to showcase the upcoming yearly jamboree for the global political and corporate elite that has as its core aim an ambition no less lofty than to foster an environment where the myriad problems and challenges facing the world in 2014 can be tackled head on.

The confab officially kicks off on Jan. 22 and runs through Jan. 25. USA TODAY will publish a more in-depth preview of the event in the days running up to the meeting.

But speaking to journalists Wednesday, Schwab said: "We need to push the reset button. The world is still much too much caught in a crisis-management mode. We should look at our future in a much more constructive and strategic way. That is what Davos is about." He added that Davos is a unique forum because, "There is no place in the world where so many stakeholders of our global future assemble, all united by the mission of improving the state of the world."

Schwab said that confidence appeared to be creeping back into the global economy following the difficult post-financial crises years, but that for many countries, "It's like running with a heavy backpack on your shoulders."

More than 2,500 fellow Davos travelers will convene in the small Swiss mountain town, including dozens of heads of state and hundreds of business leaders. The official theme for this year's meeting is "The Reshaping of the World: Consequences for Society, Politics and Business."

Presidents and prime ministers from the Group of 20 countries who will address the meeting include:

Shinzo Abe, prime minister of Japan
David Cameron, prime minister of the United Kingdom
Enrico Letta, prime minister of Italy
Enrique Peña Nieto, president of Mexico
Park Geun-Hye, president of the Republic of Korea

Sorry, but the news about the engine isn’t good.

The nation’s economic engine got FUBAR'd permanently back in 1913 by diabolical saboteurs. An attempt was made to hotwire a kluged reset button back in 1971, but our tricky elected idiot dipsticks just squirted oil all over it! Then they replaced the gold breaker points with new-fangled electronic capacitive discharge ignition that was pointless and only made the whole thing run faster.

That was back in October ’71, and because the constitutional protection juice got watered down way too much over the years, by mid winter some of the freeze plugs got pushed out due to solid liquid expansion! It should have been quit hot since it’s been running at full throttle the whole time and many even warned it was overheating. Many pointed to the temp gauge and said that it looks OK, while others accused the government of lying about those coolant water temperature readings! Apparently it froze up again in 1973 when the rest of those freeze plugs were pushed out by Carter.

Most people realized that the constitutional protection juice is all gone now and it’s still running faster and faster at wide open throttle. This is a disaster in the making! The electronic control system was fully computerized in the 80’s allowing the economic engine to now go faster than the 1913 saboteurs could ever have dreamed of. Little bits of metal are still flying out but there is no cause for alarm because this is normal and the smallest ones (pennies, nickels) don’t even seem to be necessary any more.

There still is a push to secure more bloody oil, at any cost since it’s too big to fail!

The stop button has been epoxied over so it looks like we just have to wait for the whole FUBAR’d thing to seize up and die on its own. This should not take too long since the block must be cracked by now and galled people bearing the load are looking to alternatives such as bitcoin.

And those few that do manage to get lucky in the casino often don't know how to take advantage of their luck. Recently I played blackjack with a married couple. They were on a hot streak like Ive never seen before (both of them were separately winning 4 of 5 hands for at least two hours) but they missed the cardinal rule of casino betting. If you are on a hot streak, start upping your bet! They wouldn't budge from their $15 each per hand bet even after I told them numerous times they should up their bet. So they ended up doubling their $400 into $800 when they should have been playing max table bet of $200 each per hand and cleaning out the casino. All I could do was shake my head at how much money they were "giving" to the casino because they didn't know how to gamble properly.
