They’re on the dole — and watching the pole.

Welfare recipients took out cash at bars, liquor stores, X-rated video shops, hookah parlors and even strip clubs — where they presumably spent their taxpayer money on lap dances rather than diapers, a Post investigation found.

A database of 200 million Electronic Benefit Transfer records from January 2011 to July 2012, obtained by The Post through a Freedom of Information request, showed welfare recipients using their EBT cards to make dozens of cash withdrawals at ATMs inside Hank’s Saloon in Brooklyn; the Blue Door Video porn shop in the East Village; The Anchor, a sleek SoHo lounge; the Patriot Saloon in TriBeCa; and Drinks Galore, a liquor distributor in The Bronx.

LePage is a rant about welfare fraud in Maine lately. But the reality of it is that fraud is like .01% of all EBT transactions here. It makes good headlines and it does indeed happen but it's not widespread.

The actual numbers are very small.

“Data released shows that since January 1, 2012 more than 3,000 transactions were made at more than 22 “smoke shops” in Maine, which sell primarily cigarettes and other tobacco products. There are several examples of individuals using their EBT cards to spend hundreds of dollars at a time at liquor stores in Maine. One liquor store in New Hampshire had more than a thousand transactions totaling nearly $8,000.

There are nearly 650 transactions at retail establishments that sell primarily alcohol, such as bars and sports pubs. The data also shows that EBT cards were used at strip clubs in Maine. Transactions using cash benefits at these locations are prohibited under state and federal law.

The truth will never stop Limbaugh & Beck from using a few instances of fraud to whip the rubes into a frenzy.

LePage is a supporter of Christie. I think Christie might pick LePage because of his rants to help him with conservatives.

Welfare, HAH! ...I thought this was some politicians expensing Beluga Caviar & Bollinger Champagne at a fundraiser thrown in Bora Bora by the Military Industrial Complex called an "educational seminar or fact finding mission".

GOVERNMENT is all theft and welfare 24/7, the only difference... who gets what slice of the pie and we know.

It is not fraud but I think it is BS. I say we end this wealth redistribution NOW. The parasites must learn to live on their own. Welfare fraud is much more widespread than reported also. I have friends that have explained how the abuse and fraud works in their stores and it is disgusting both by the welfare recipient and the store owner. If there is any welfare it should last no longer than unemployment benefits. Also should have a lifetime max payout. If you can't learn to survive on your own then piss off or go to a private charity for assistance

I don't know about that. I've never seen LePage endorse Christie.

I do know that Lepage was the only sitting governor to meet with Ron Paul during the primary. LePage refused to attend the RNC over the irregularities in the vote in Maine. I also think his wife was a delegate for Ron Paul.

Not quite an endorsement, but close.

That would be the "circus" part of Bread and Circus.

This has been previously discussed, but the key part of all of this is that the objection isn't to the "free money," or even that it can be converted into cash. No, the objection is to the immoral things the people withdrawing money are allegedly doing.

Welfare recipients took out cash at bars, liquor stores, X-rated video shops, hookah parlors and even strip clubs — where they presumably spent their taxpayer money on lap dances rather than diapers, a Post investigation found.

Or they live in a part of town where those are the places where they can withdraw money at a certain hour of the night.

Less judging the people, more judging the program.

Ingraham also probed the governor on his favorite GOP presidential candidates. LePage said he was still a fan of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Texas Gov. Rick Perry.
Christie, said LePage, is a great guy, while Perry has learned that it’s not a great idea to have surgery and engage in a presidential debate on pain killers.
