On Thursday the Obama White House blog reported that it is moving forward to expand the now 50 year old War on Poverty in new ways with the start of a “Promise Zone” program where "the federal government will partner with local innovators, advancing their work to expand opportunity in their communities" with the headline goal of creating jobs.

Of course, "Promise Zones" will only work by using money that is stolen by forced taxation, borrowed or printed. Never mind that the US Federal Deficit now sees a shortfall of over $2 billion dollars a day.

The first five "Promise Zones" announced are San Antonio, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Southeastern Kentucky, and the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.

Looking past the unconstitutional nature of this so-called "Promise Zone" program, one has to ask why San Antonio will be targeted as the city has some very positive economic indicators. Amongst the indicators include Forbes listing San Antonio in their "10 Best Cities For Job Seekers" list and the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce declaration that "San Antonio has one of the most robust economies in the country."

So who is right? Did the Obama Administration miss the mark or should the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce be more honest, and Forbes do better research?

Or is the Obama Administration targeting San Antonio for reasons other than their stated goals? As usual with politics, one needs to follow the money, we'll just have to see where it goes and who it benefits in San Antonio. Chances are, it will benefit more than the needy. Just watch.

I'm wondering the political make-up of those areas. Philadelphia is VERY Heavily Democrat.

I wonder what would happen if I applied for money from the Obama Administration to fund the final development and sale of the NSA-Proof Computer? :p

"uhh. You, uhh, you want to make WHAT?"

At least 3 of the 4 are heavy Democratic.

San Antonio was likely targeted to help Democrats trying to turn Texas back into a Democratic state and to encourage Hispanics to vote Democratic.

Obama has already promised $300,000,000 in additional federal welfare for Detroit.

That way way back in September. They probably burned through that already.
