Someone on facebook posted that he received this letter in the mail(in TN). He said that it was highlighted and had a bunch of underlines. Here is him retyping it...any grammatical errors are the person's fault and he warns about it before hand.
Dear Friend,
Do you think a "real conservative" for our next president?
There are a lot of Republican candidates for for President out there pretending to be conservatives. They will have you believe they have suddenly undergone a miraculous conversion and now support everything to smaller government to overturning Roe v. Wade. But their past actions and views totally belie this new found conservative rhetoric.
I think we need a president who will faithfully work to uphold the constitutions. Someone who will consistently fight to cut taxes, reduce federal spending, balance the budget, and work for a truly pro American foreign policy that always puts our interest first. These principles have stood for generations as the positions that real conservatives hold. Yet sadly, these views have been virtually abandoned by Republican leaders today.
You know as well as I do, that the Republican Party - my party - has floundered in recent years in it's efforts to give us reasonable conservative leadership. This is sad news. But we both know the Democrats are even worse!
We can and must do better than this. That is why I agreed to become a candidate for President of the United States in the Republican primaries.
When I first announced I was considering running for president, the response was immediate and overwhelmingly positive. My phone, fax, and e-mail were swamped with conservative Americans encouraging me... begging me... to run for president. The plea behind each appeal wanting me to run has been much the same, "Ron, there is simply no conservative running, we desperately need you to run!".
Since I announced I was running, I have participated in televised debates with the other GOP candidates, and the response to my debate performances has been amazing. I won the post debate poll on MSNBC and came in a strong second place on the Fox News debate poll. The liberal pundits grimaced when they saw that someone with my consistent, conservative views could perform so well in the debate polls, but it is clear that my message... our message... is resonating loud and clear with American voters.
Clearly our nation and the republican party need a true conservative, pro American, pro constitution, limited government candidate for president. The need is greater today than it has ever been.
The liberal big spenders and big taxers (in both parties) pay little attention to the constitution when they cast their votes in favor of the latest government handout program, or the newest foreign aid giveaway.
But I do things differently. If something isn't specifically authorized in the constitution when it comes up for a vote in congress, I VOTE AGAINST IT.
Well, as you can imagine, I end up voting "no" on most bills that come before congress because most of them are flat out unconstitutional.
That's why the politicians on the Hill, have given me the title of "Dr. No". When I was first sworn into congress (and every time I have been sworn in since) I took an oath to do one thing, to support and defend the constitution of the United States and that is what I do... no matter what!!!
Unlike the politicians in Washington, however, there are many who understand and appreciate my votes for a limited, constitutional government. That's why, for example, I have time and time again been officially named "The Taxpayer's Friend In Congress" by the National Taxpayer's Union in recognition of my consistent votes to cut taxes and spending. And this year I have received that award again.
Congressman are not the only people who swear to uphold and defend the constitution. The President of The United States takes that oath as well.
I think it is time we had a president who understands that oath, believes what the constitution actually says, and knows what are founding fathers intended when they wrote it over 200 years ago.
There are millions of conservative, pro liberty, pro constitution, pro American sovereignty voters nationwide who understand and support what I am working for in congress. These folks are clamoring to have a president who will stand up for and fight for these same values.
These patriots support my work in Washington to defend American sovereignty and to get us out the horrendous UN. They agree with me that the UN is an anti American boondoggle comprised of socialists, liberal elitists, and all kinds of undesirables whose goal is to tear down America and destroy everything we stand for.
If were up to the pro UN crowd, America would be forced to participate in (and pay for) every globalist, wacko-environmentalist, wealth-redistribution scheme that came along. And our sovereignty as a nation would become a relic of the past, no longer allowed to stand in the way of their push to implement a New World Order.
The thing is, however, I DON'T LIKE THEIR PLAN for a New World Order. And our founding fathers did not like that plan either. Our founders established a nation that was new- and special, one that guarded liberty and personal freedoms from oppressive governments, both at home and abroad. They had seen, first hand, the capricious acts and political wars of Europe, and they wanted no part in such a system. And neither should we today.
Just as standing up to the big taxers and spenders in Washington makes me unpopular with the politicians and bureaucrats, my stands on behalf of American sovereignty make me even less popular. It makes the politicians "uncomfortable" to have to vote on issues like getting us out of the UN.
But the voters do not send people to congress or elect them as president in order for them to live a lavish life at the expense of the tax payers. After all, we are supposed to be your servants... not the other way around.
While politicians are living lives of privilege and luxury, they do not want to be inconvenienced by having to deal with issues like securing our own nation's borders. And while the politicians have fiddled, this problem has grown even worse. The very borders of our nation are under assault today. Conservative estimates suggest that 10-20 million people are currently living in our country illegally- a number which is growing exponentially.
And what is the answer offered by the President and the newly elected liberal majority in congress?: To provide amnesty for these lawbreakers and make it easier for more to come here. It has been estimated that "immigration" proposals in the senate would legally admit at least 60 million people over the next two decades. That is not "immigration." It is an invasion! This unwise thinking absolutely has to be opposed and defeated.
Rather than offer sound solutions to the real problems facing our country, the only things we hear coming from the other candidates for President are about the "need" to socialize our health-care system, or the "importance" of sending more foreign aid to overseas dictators, or the latest proposal for making every American dependent on big government from cradle-to-grave.
Instead of offering proposals for smaller government and real American security, the politicians and Elites offer a vision of a "New America" including ever-higher taxes imposed by Washington and international bodies like the UN. Their vision also includes a sovereign United States of America being transformed into a "North American Union" and opening our borders wide for and invasion of non-citizens-- resulting in the effective repopulation of American border states.
Such thinking and actions would lead quickly to the end of our country as we have known it for the past 250 years. I am not willing to let this happen without a fight.
Of course, there are a lot of naysayers in the media and among weak-kneed politicians in my own party. They argue that a pro American platform that calls for low taxes, smaller government, an end to US participation in the UN, the securing of our borders, and a faithful upholding of the US constitution cannot possibly gain enough support today among American voters to be successful.
I disagree! These same people have told me the same thing in each and every one of my campaigns for congress. And they have been proven wrong!
The American people, particularly conservative Republican voters, know the difference between right and wrong. And they are clamoring for a candidate who stand up and consistently fight for what is good and what is right.
Conservative, patriotic American voters are tired of the rhetoric and broken promises. They are sick of politicians, including many Republicans, who campaign on the need for smaller government, yet, once elected take the lead in giving us bigger government and sky-rocketing federal spending.
I am asking you today to support a Ron Paul presidential bid along with millions of other American patriots. For me to succeed it will take a tremendous outpouring of support from conservative friends like you.
The campaign for the White House in 2008 may be a very peculiar race. With a large number of candidates running, the candidate well organized with a pre-existing group of grassroots supporters in place may have an important edge over other candidates. Because the support for my congressional campaigns and my free-market educational efforts comes from American patriots nationwide, not just in Texas, I already have just such a group of highly motivated campaign workers in place.
In New Hampshire, the first GOP primary state (just to cite one example) I have a contingent of conservative activists in place who are supporting me for president. This group includes members of the state legislator, who are encouraging me in the strongest possible way to make this race.
If you agree with the tens of thousands of my friends and supporters who are ringing my office phone off the wall and filling my mailbox with letters supporting my campaign for president, please respond to this appeal with the maximum gift you can afford to Ron Paul for President.
Please let me hear from you today regarding my campaign for President of The United States. Together, we can make a difference!
Yours for Liberty,
Congressman Ron Paul
