"Dallas police shot and killed a lawyer from a prominent Dallas firm Thursday after police say he reported a burglary at his Uptown apartment and opened fire on officers.

The incident began about 1:45 a.m. when police were called to the Glass House by Windsor apartment tower after the suspect, 47-year-old Michael Edward Schmidt, told an employee there had been a break-in.

When police arrived, Schmidt barricaded himself in a hallway near the lobby and fired at them, authorities said. Officers tried to negotiate with the gunman, police said, but he continued shooting, and police were forced to return fire, killing him. No officers or other residents were injured, police said.

Schmidt’s youngest child, an 11-year-old daughter, was present in the apartment during the deadly confrontation.

“We are very, very thankful that she is OK,” said Susan McMordie, Schmidt’s mother-in-law. “It could have gone all sorts of ways. You never know about this type of stuff.”

Schmidt is the son of C.L. Mike Schmidt, founder of the Dallas law firm The Schmidt Firm. He’s worked at the firm since graduating from Oklahoma City University School of Law in 1992. A representative from the firm declined to comment."

Looking at several stories and it does not compute.

There is some bullshit here.

After that employee called for police, Schmidt reportedly moved to a hallway adjacent to the condominium's lobby and began barricading himself inside.

When officers arrived, they spoke to the employee and were informed of the Schmidt's location and that he was armed.

Evidence markers were visible along the street and were believed to be marking shell casings from weapons that were fired during the incident. Garza said the weapon believed to be used by the resident during the shootout was recovered at the scene and that an investigation continues.

He DID NOT call police. Someone else called police..
Someone else sic'd the police on him.

And if all the shooting was inside,,(as claimed) why are there bullet casings in the street?

That is an Idea.

This looks to me like the guy might have been "swatted". Set up.
It is possible that they guy snapped (Suicide by cop),, but from inconsistencies in the story,, I am guessing the Cops shot the victim and are in full ass covering mode now.

How 'bout an executive?

Bring back the colosseum and charge admission...

Finally a truly useful purpose for government employees and officers of the court..

Let's see, 6 gunfights per hour, 24 hours per day, 7.........Oh never mind there's to damned many of 'em for this to be effective..

Yep. If this isn't evidence of brainwashing, I don't know what is. Some people can only think in terms of cop shows and action flicks with hero cops anymore.

Been trying to find more on this.

http://abcnews.go.com/US/lovable-laid-back-texas-lawyer-killed-police-shootout/story?id=21414403

James Holmes, a fellow attorney at the Schmidt Firm, said he saw Schmidt on Dec. 27, right after he returned from a holiday break.

"He was well rested and very happy. His father, who was in daily contact with him, spoke with him just a few hours before and he was in good spirits and was very happy," Holmes said.

"Michael was a very lovable and laid back guy and was kind and generous," Holmes said. "Anyone would have said that about him before this, he was just a very likable person."

When ABC News reached out to Schmidt's family, his step-mother, Glenna Goodacre, was too upset to comment, only saying that, "He thought someone was robbing him and he ran outside and the police shot him." Schmidt's funeral will be on Monday, Goodacre said.

You would think with a high profile Lawyer there would be some investigation..
But not much ,,, Most parroting the police,, and not questioning at all.

Was there a break in?

How did the police determine that the guy was high (they claims so) when they did not even talk to him?

Where did the shell casings in the street come from?

Why is no one asking questions?
