The Troops Make Christmas Possible

Laurence M. Vance

http://www.lewrockwell.com/lrc-blog/the-troops-make-christmas-possible/

The latest military nonsense going around is a poem sent via e-mail that makes celebrating Christmas dependent upon U.S. troops stationed halfway around the world. Here is the last stanza of the poem and the last statement in the e-mail:

“Just tell us you love us, and never forget.
To fight for our rights back at home while we’re gone,
To stand your own watch, no matter how long.
For when we come home, either standing or dead,
To know you remember we fought and we bled.
Is payment enough, and with that we will trust,
That we mattered to you as you mattered to us.”

PLEASE, Would you do me the kind favour of sending this to as many people as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our service men and women for our being able to celebrate these festivities. Let’s try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us.

When I was a kid we used to sing about peace on earth and good will toward men.

Yeah, I know it's hard to believe I'm that old...

Buying shit they don't need, with money they don't have, to please their master's they don't know.

We are so fucked...

Turns out the best way to have peace is to kill everyone who disagrees with you. Then you can have good will towards the survivors.

+1 Many moons back people liked to stop thinking about death, war, mayhem, etc during the holiday season. But I'm also old enough to remember what life was like when most people used pen or a typewriter for homework...

Being young has gotten me cynical, but I don't care that it happens to be Christmas season. We should be holding the murderers in uniform accountable every day of the year.

Have to disagree with that poem. There is no Christmas without being with family that for many involves travel, and it is TSA that makes Christmas possible.

I don't even know where to start with how inaccurate this is.

"credit is due to our service men and women for our being able to celebrate these festivities"

That's as good as any, I guess.

Oh right, I forgot the huge invading army that was hell-bent on destroying and raping christmas, when on the beaches of Florida they met our army and we told them "Nobody rapes christmas" and stopped them.

Yes we wouldn't have Christmas if we didn't send our young men and woman all over the world to shoot and be shot at by scary brown people protecting their lands from invasion and occupation.

To give credit where it's due, they also make possible Independence Day (http://fedupflyers.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Grope-a-dope-13.png) and Thanksgiving festivities (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEzFAmue4RY) for families across America.

You need to watch Fox News and hear O'Reilly rant about the "War on Christmas."

To fight for our rights back at home while we’re gone,

I thought that's what THEY'RE supposed to be doing. That's what I'm constantly told anyway. And if they're supposed to be "protecting and defending our freedoms," then they're doing it wrong and have failed utterly.

This reminds me of the "Freedom is not Free" bumper sticker. Translation: "It costs a fortune to maintain a global empire so fork over your cash".

That being said I do support a military, but only in a defensive capacity.

I don't know but I'm betting he was the same guy who planted the IED that we ran over in our one-horse open sleigh.

"Department of Defence" is defensive, it says so even in the name. Can't recall the last time they started an Offensive war.

Phew! It was a close call tonight. While hanging Christmas lights, we came under fire from snipers. Luckily the troops returned mortar rounds and the snipers stopped. I might need assistance hanging the mistletoe because I'm pretty sure our enemies will mark it for guided missiles as soon as anyone stands under it.

Yah, the fuckers opened up on me with a SAW while I was chopping down the Christmas tree.

The troops called in a drone strike to take 'em out.

White powder fell from the sky today -- I think it was anthrax. Luckily, the troops were there to toss some type of experimental antibiotic on the roads -- it seems to liquify WMDs. *Phew*
