Hope this isn't a duplicate... sorry if it is.

During a congressional committee hearing about the constitutional limits imposed on the presidency and the implications of President Barack Obama’s disregard for implementing the Affordable Care Act as written, one expert testified that the consequences of the president’s behavior were potentially grave. He said that the precedent set by Obama could eventually lead to an armed revolt against the federal government.

On Tuesday, Michael Cannon, Cato Institute’s Director of Health Policy Studies, testified before a congressional committee about the dangers of the president’s legal behavior.

“There is one last thing to which the people can resort if the government does not respect the restrains that the constitution places on the government,” Cannon said. “Abraham Lincoln talked about our right to alter our government or our revolutionary right to overthrow it.”

“That is certainly something that no one wants to contemplate,” he continued. “If the people come to believe that the government is no longer constrained by the laws then they will conclude that neither are they.”

“That is a very dangerous sort of thing for the president to do, to wantonly ignore the laws,” Cannon concluded, “to try to impose obligation upon people that the legislature did not approve.”

That was in front of a Congressional hearing today. I can't change the title to reflect that, but this Congress has it's warning from their own witness...... so they better start to impeach that chump in the WH

Lol, most Americans will probably consider it convenient that they don't have to wait for Congress to pass bills.

Yeah because we're still recovering from the Great Overthrow that occurred during the Bush administration

And when the fuck did Lincoln ever utter anything close to these words: “Abraham Lincoln talked about our right to alter our government or our revolutionary right to overthrow it.”

He talked about it. He talked about how you didn't have that right and if you said you did or - heaven forbid - acted on it, he invaded your land, burnt your crops, confiscated your property and murdered you and your family.

So yeah. He talked about it.

Hate to say.. but I think this country is too passive and/or too divided to do anything like this. It would be unpatriotic to go against the government that kills patriots and make unconstitutional laws with a sprinkle of corruption. =P

Hard as I try, I still can't imagine the fed masses in their polo shirts rising from the glow of their TVs and abandoning their couches to take up rifles and go overthrow the government. As much as I wish it were a possibility, it seems far from it.

Put this testimony together with this piece of the puzzle and it makes you wonder!

The Jewish pro-Israel lobby, AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee), supported by other Jewish and Evangelical organizations, is marshalling its forces on Capitol Hill. It’s an impressive show.

Senator after senator, congressman after congressman comes forward to support the Israeli government against their own president. The same people who jumped up and down like string puppets when Netanyahu made his last speech before both houses of Congress, try to outdo each other in assertions of their undying loyalty to Israel.

Pretty much sums up how I already feel.

The point he's obviously missing--like one misses the side of a big, red barn--is that the government will prove to them otherwise; namely, that they, the government, are not constrained by the laws, while the governed are. One can't simply conclude that they are not constrained by the laws if they still face consequences for behaving accordingly.

He talked about when he was younger.

“Any people, anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. This is a most valuable, a most sacred right, a right which we hope and believe is to liberate the world. Nor is this right confined to cases in which the whole people of an existing government may choose to exercise it. Any portion of such people, that can, may revolutionize, and make their own of so much of the territory as they inhabit. More than this, a majority of any portion of such people may revolutionize, putting down a minority, intermingled with, or near about them, who may oppose their movements.” ~ Lincoln January 12 1848

It might not take that many. The siege at Waco in 1992 was costing the DoJ some $2 million per day in overtime and such for the "special" agents and such. The thing was at the $100 million mark and they decided it couldn't continue, and something had to be done to stop the cash drain.

In a government of laws, existence of the government will be imperiled if it fails to observe the law scrupulously. Our Government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill, it teaches the whole people by its example. Crime is contagious. If the Government becomes a lawbreaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself....

COURT: Mr. McVeigh, you have the right to make any statement you wish to make....

MCVEIGH: ... I wish to use the words of Justice Brandeis... to speak for me. He wrote, "Our Government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill, it teaches the whole people by its example." That's all I have.

I think this country is too passive and/or too divided to do anything like this.

Armed revolt doesn't require a consensus. One guy might do plenty, once he saw government employees disregarding the law, and he realized that the law doesn't matter. He might not completely "overthrow" the government, and he'd be called a "terrorist", but he would be engaging in "armed revolt against the federal government", so I think Cannon's point is valid when he says "That is a very dangerous sort of thing for the president to do, to wantonly ignore the laws."

The government tried many times to shut down this website and book, but lost. Why? Because it doesn't convey any untruths.

The government lost. This information is still published over a decade now.

Other books, such as Irwin Schiff's, have been censored. But not this one. Why, because it addresses the truth about the income tax.

Technically speaking, isn't Obama ignoring laws itself a de facto overthrow of government?

So, the overthrow has already taken place. Lets be crystal clear on THAT fucking matter.

Your numbers are off. It wouldn't go down like that. Dude, think about the first Civil war. The military, if it split, holy fuck. The devastation?!
Will the military split again, like it did in 1860/61? Or will it remain whole and pick a side. If the military remains more than, lets say, 70% intact the side it picks wins.

The number of people that would fight? I put the number no higher than 500. I'd rather be pleasantly surprised.

Stop feeding the beast:

www.losthorizons.com

The government tried many times to shut down this website and book, but lost. Why? Because it doesn't convey any untruths.

The site is a total scam run by a twice-convicted charlatan whose crackpot theories were completely rejected on his way to serving over 2 years in prison for filing false documents with the IRS. Many of the suckers who swallowed the snake oil he peddled have been found liable for back taxes, interest and penalties. Read about this fraudster here: http://tpgurus.wikidot.com/peter-hendrickson

Exactly, he was not convicted for filing anything false. They convicted him because they said he did not believe what he filed was his belief.
