Give the officer some credit, folks. He did have a gun in case someone’s dog was nearby.

A police officer stood by, chatting on his cellphone while the men rescued the 62-yr-old woman, who is now in critical condition.

According to witnesses the woman was trapped in her vehicle for at least six minutes.

Update:

Unfortunately, the woman is now dead. Sudsbury Star reports: “Two sources have confirmed to The Sudbury Star that the 62-year-old woman rescued from her sport utility vehicle after it left Municipal Road 80 on Thursday near McCrea Heights and plunged into a marsh has died.”

Good thing she probably had a seat belt on, it kept her from...n/m

This kind of accident is why my grandfather would never wear a seat belt.

At least the officer is OK.

They should have said she was a politician.

is it just me, or did everyone in that video seem a bit lethargic (though brave, I was shivering watching it) given the circumstances?

I'm just surprised the cop didn't taser the rescuers "for their own safety."

Perhaps those men ought to sue the cop for negligence.

SCOTUS ruled (http://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/28/politics/28scotus.html?_r=0) that police have no duty to help anyone.

Taking a member of the "Just-Us" department to task in one of their courts really is kind of foolish.

This kind of accident is why my grandfather would never wear a seat belt.

My grandfather had a horrendous accident where his car flipped over the medium of a six lane highway into on-coming traffic. He made it out alive with nothing more than a cut on his ear and arms from the glass blowing in on him. He even had a police officer tell him. "If you were wearing your seatbelt you more than likely would have been killed" because he was able to lay down on the bench seat as his ceiling was crushed from flipping over then getting hit by 3 or 4 cars, swirling him around the highway like a spindle top.

When I was a firefighter, occasionally you'd see a few cops trying to save a life. Mostly they'd annoy you with stupid questions like, "was the deceased wearing a seatbelt?" as we were pulling the still living person out from under an 18 wheeler that was about to tip over on us.

Either that or they'd try to take charge and dominate the scene even though for the most part they didn't know what they were doing and legally the fire dept was in charge.

Thankfully most of them did what that young officer did: stay out of our way and talk on a phone.

This was in Canada. Do SCOTUS rulings apply there?

That's why we need police...

Rescuer 1: Get the knife

camera man: Yeah, get a knife

Rescuer 2: Here's the knife

Cop: Make sure it's under 3 inches, it's the law.

Oh I didn't realize. I should have from the accent! But thanks for the FIY, and in answer to your condescending rhetorical question, no they don't.

Wasn't there another video recently where Canadian firefighters responded to an armed robbery? And now the Police show up for a rescue?

A little girl drowned in the pond I lived by. Stepped on the ice and it started cracking so she stopped moving and cried for help. My dad was coming home from work and wanted to save her; the police were already on scene. They detained him and threatened to arrest him if he did anything. (they were waiting on the fire department) Some thirty minutes later she fell through. They wouldn't let him break ice, in this five or so foot deep pond, mind you, to go the thirty feet in to have grabbed her.

He talks about it to this day.

Never complain about a cop just standing around.

It's when they do something that they cause trouble and grief.

The Officer looked very cold. I think that's why he felt it unnecessary to taze those mundanes who seemed to take things into their own hands to come up with a solution.

That's almost satanic in nature! I can imagine it was traumatic for him to have to watch!
