PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla., Nov. 21 (UPI) --
Authorities in Florida said a reported handgun that led to a mall lockdown turned out to be a folded-up apron being carried by a waiter.

The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office said the Port Charlotte Town Centre Mall was locked down Monday after deputies received word around 11 a.m. a man was seen carrying a handgun near the facility's J.C. Penny's store, WBBH-TV, Fort Myers, Fla., reported Thursday.

The mall and several nearby schools were put on lockdown while deputies searched the building.

Deputies said they were unable to locate the reported gun-toting man or spot anyone carrying a firearm on security cameras. The mall and schools were on lockdown for about an hour.

The sheriff's office said deputies eventually located the man who was the subject of the report, and they discovered he was a waiter at a local restaurant and he had been carrying his folded-up apron around the mall.

Some comments from the article.

Luckily he did not have donuts they would have shot him for being in possession of stolen police property.

We as a nation are F****D

Just ban all people carrying anything at all when in or near malls. Problem solved?

Yeah but the apron had more then ten stains and a forearm handle on it making it an assault apron.

The terrorists can rest assured.... they have won. We don't need to worry about them anymore as we have destroyed ourselves.

The other day I had mistaken a peanut butter and jelly sandwich as a handgun. This is pretty common guys...

Wow. I know I've heard some of my friends say things like "I just don't feel safe at all anymore. You see someone in the mall with their hands in their pockets and you can't help but think they are going to pull out a gun." So ridiculous. I guess "they" are doing their job keeping everyone in a constant state of fear.

Lucky he didn't get shot 30 or 40 times by amped up asshole cops, hut-hutting about.

See Something Say Something.

Wait until the next government terror attack kills 30,000 people.

Or 3 million.

I have a hard time grasping these types of events. Alabama is an open carry state, and trust me you see a LOT of open carrying here. The only real reason to get a CCW permit here is for keeping a weapon in your vehicles, and those are good for up to 5 years.

So, that is what I'm used to. Then I read about people freaking out over some dude toting an apron........

sigh
