A Utah town set the gold standard for election mismanagement this month when it simply forgot to hold an election.

The town of Wallsburg, Utah, was meant to elect a new mayor and city council on November 5. But, the Salt Lake Tribune reported, the person in charge of running the election forgot to make the necessary preparations, like letting people know that the filing period for candidates had opened, and printing ballots.

By the time the mistake was realized, it was too close to the day that was supposed to be election day to remedy the situation

Instead, Wasatch County Clerk Brent Titcomb told the Tribune: “They’re going to have to appoint the current mayor and council for two more years and they’ll advertise and have people elected” in the next election cycle two years from now.

This is the second cycle in a row that the town has forgotten to hold an election.

Sounds like the town government is either completely incompetent or council/mayor are running a dictatorship. I bet the compensation package for council/mayor is really good.

Edit: The town has 200 people, I bet the government does nothing.

Bold is more accurate.

I've driven through Utah, there would literally be nothing for them to do out in the small farming towns.

Based on what I learned on another thread, they can't even blame their forgetfulness on drinking too much.

Elections are so overrated. The rest of the US has them regularly, and look what has happened there.
