"According to an article at Medium, 'Cisco has seen a huge drop-off (http://qz.com/147313/ciscos-disastrous-quarter-shows-how-nsa-spying-could-freeze-us-companies-out-of-a-trillion-dollar-opportunity/) in demand for its hardware in emerging markets, which the company blames on fears about the NSA using American hardware to spy (http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/on-it/ciscos-gloomy-revenue-forecast-shows-nsa-effect-starting-to-hit-home/2013/11/14/ee681e12-4d37-11e3-bf60-c1ca136ae14a_story.html) on the rest of the world. ... Cisco saw orders in Brazil drop 25% and Russia drop 30%. ... Analysts had expected Cisco's business in emerging markets to increase 6%, but instead it dropped 12% (http://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/cisco-reports-lower-1st-quarter-net-income-issues-001351104.html), sending shares of Cisco plunging 10% in after-hours trading.' This is in addition to the harm caused to remote services that may cost $35 billion over the next three years (http://blog.sfgate.com/techchron/2013/08/08/nsa-spying-may-cost-cloud-companies-35-billion/). Then, of course, there are the ways the NSA has made ID theft easier (http://www.bankinfosecurity.com/report-nsa-circumvented-encryption-a-6045). ID theft cost Americans $1.52 billion (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/28/identity-theft-cost-americans-152-billion-2011-ftc_n_1307485.html) in 2011, to say nothing of the time wasted in solving ID theft issues — some of that figure is certainly attributable to holes the NSA helped build. The NSA, its policies, and the politicians who support the same are directly responsible for massive losses of money and jobs."

Any time any Govt comes along and says shit like "hand over all your encryption keys" with a gag order preventing companies from either fighting against or speaking of said order for the encryption keys, the trust of the world is violated. This is not something caused by Snowden. The US Govt shot itself in its own greedy foot with this entire surveillance society bullshit.
