Just in case you were still being fooled into thinking that the TSA is good for, well, anything, follow along with You Tube contributor Terminal Cornucopia as he constructs a home-made "FRAGGuccino" from stuff you can buy from airport terminal kiosks—you know the ones you can enter after passing through security.

With just a stainless steel coffee mug, a Li-ion AA battery, some Axe Body Spray, a condom, and a bottle of water, Terminal Cornucopia was able to construct and successfully detonate an improvised frag grenade. Essentially the water filled condom breaks upon being thrown which shorts the battery, generating enough heat to ignite the can of Axe which transforms the mug into a flurry of shrapnel. Obviously, this was simply a test demonstrating a proof of concept but the fact that it can be done—apparently very easily, very quickly, and for less than $30. Get ready for your airport security screening to get a lot less pleasant.

One question, are you allowed to take a Leatherman past airport security?

Wouldn't let me into the "public" offices/ court house complex. Had to leave it at the door and retrieve on exit. This is in N.C. I'd think airports wouldn't allow it. Don't know though.

Pliers, screwdrivers under 7" long, and knives with blades under 2.36" long are all allowed, so I think so, if the blade is small enough.

My Leatherman Wave have two blades straight/serrated that are about 3 3/4" in length.

Yeah, it would have to be one of the really small kinds.

I don't know exactly what tool that guy was using. But it looked like all he used were the scissors. I have a tiny leatherman with scissors on my keychain that I'm pretty sure is TSA-acceptable that would have been able to do what he did.

It was a nice demonstration of two things.

1. The TSA is a pointless waste of money.

2. Everyone can be found with ( and reported as such) Bomb making materials.

The 9/11 alleged hijackers would today be allowed past TSA security with the weapons allegedly used to allegedly hijack the planes.

Mom is a smoker. On the last several flights, she went through security, then back out to parking, then through security, back to the parking area, and finally back to security and on the plane... with her lighter. I did have her put it in her shoe (I figured if they found it there, it would make less of a potential "she's got a weapon!" scenario ending in some tasing and such) but no one found it, no one cared.

So really while the article in the OP is interesting, the TSA doesn't stop the test cases and most of the stuff people bring through on a daily basis as it is.

The US has such messed up rules about what you can bring onboard an aircraft. I travel with a lighter all the time, no problem.

Anyone watched Under Sieged 2: Dark Territory (steven seagal) where he made an improvised explosive with coconut butter and some other stuff he found in a bar on a train? l ol

Just like a concert or sports event, in practice, it's more about sales at the post-check point concessions.

"Yes, we are going to confiscate the 1oz bottle of tequila you left in your bag. Feel free to buy a couple of the three liter box sets of Anejo, Reposado and Blanco right there past the security checkpoint."

So you still think you are safe on an Airplane? (http://www.infowars.com/researcher-makes-weapon-arsenal-using-everyday-items-found-beyond-tsa-checkpoints/)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZ5a4ycwsig#t=212

A resourceful researcher has successfully demonstrated how easy it is for anyone to build an arsenal of weapons solely using items found beyond TSA airport checkpoints, proving once again how the bloated federal agency charged with “protecting travelers” is conducting little more than security theater at taxpayer expense.

Security researcher Evan Booth set out this year to answer one question: “Can common items sold in airports after the security screening be used to build lethal weapons?”

Why go through the hassle? Just bring in an AR and a REM 870, with lots of ammo - its been demonstrated already as being highly effective.
...not to mention, with the prices at those gift shops -sheesh. Its probably cheaper to simply bring the real deal.

Still, its all very entertaining - "Security theater"
