Idaho Republicans are already gearing up for their state convention, set for June 2014 in Moscow. And, according to an internal Idaho GOP email, no less than Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul will be on hand to whip up the faithful.
"We are ... encouraged by the commitment of Senator Rand Paul who will be our special guest. Additionally, we look forward to the participation of all our Idaho Republican elected officials," stated IDGOP Chairman Barry Peterson in the email.
North Idaho is definitely Paul country. Rand Paul's father, Rep. Ron Paul, campaigned through Idaho in the 2012 presidential primary, drawing large crowds at rallies in the especially rural northern counties of the state. He won pluralities in Bonner, Boundary, Latah, Nez Perce and Idaho counties.
