It seems voters on both coasts voted to increase the minimum wage. Not a good sign. Still, I beleive 6 states don't even have minimum wages for most workers, but the federal government still forces companies operating in the 6 states to pay the federal minimum wage. The states are Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Tennessee. http://www.ncsl.org/research/labor-and-employment/state-minimum-wage-chart.aspx

SEATTLE - SeaTac, WA is center stage in a national push for a $15 minimum wage.

In election returns released Tuesday night, voters were approving the measure, 54 percent to 46 percent.

Residents of the city south of Seattle will finally having their say on Tuesday following a costly initiative campaign in which the two sides combined to spend $1.8 million -- enough money to hire every registered voter in the city for a day at $15 per hour.

The proposal would require a $15 minimum wage for many workers in and around Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. It follows a series of rallies in which fast food workers and others around the country called attention to their struggle to earn a living.

Groups outside of Washington state will be watching the results. National labor unions have contributed to support the effort while national business organizations have contributed in opposition.

New Jersey voters voted to increase the minimum wage by $1 from $7.25 to $8.25. And it is worse than it seems because the are cost of living increases built in forever! Just like in AZ, CO, FL, MO, MT, NV, OH, OR, VT and WA.

It's hard to sit in a parking lot and eat a burger without having to avoid a bum, hooker or dealer.

The minimum wage law they just passed basically applies at the airport there.

And the "large number of low-wage restaurant and hotel businesses" in SeaTac.

SeaTac is a tiny municipality with only 12,000 registered voters. It has a large number of low-wage restaurant and hotel businesses that are captive to their proximity to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. They will have little choice but to pay the new wage.

Look for a lot of these businesses closing up shop, leaving only the 'if you have to ask you can't afford it' businesses left along with burger kings and such. Small businesses are going to get hit hard, and as I have stated, it's already a blighted community and now it will get worse for honest working people who will lose their jobs.

But hey, it's not your business, right? (shrug)

Maybe the people will be replaced by a lot of vending machines and automatic machines. Go to McDonald's and you use the vending machine to order snacks, your soda, your coffee, your ice cream, your apple pie, your fruit...

Maybe a store inside the airport will be replaced with like a dozen vending machines. That would be interesting.

Sea Tac is pretty international as you would expect, and there are a lot of small businesses that cater to different demographics there that will be hit hard from this. This has fail written all over it. Like I said, the big chains will figure out a way around it and the rest will be left sucking hind tit.

It's a win for the corporations and government looking for more dependents.
