Democrat Terry McAuliffe’s win for governor of Virginia was bolstered big-time by the anti-Second Amendment crowd led by billionaire Nanny Mike Bloomberg and his Independent USA PAC. The pressure group is led by the current poster child for gun-grabbers, former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, the Arizona Democrat shot in the head during a campaign event in Tucson two years ago.

Bloomberg’s organization threw in half a million dollars to make sure McAuliffe won the race. Bloomberg personally spent $3 million in the state to inundate voters with mailers and television ads attacking Kenneth Cuccinelli, McAuliffe’s Republican opponent.

MSNBC portrayed Cuccinelli as a puppet of the NRA and the “gun lobby,” code for political groups that support the Second Amendment.

The network places huge emphasis on the state and McAuliffe’s narrow win. “McAuliffe’s spurning of the N.R.A. and his victory may very well represent a long awaited shift in the way gun-politics are played in purple states,” writes Trymaine Lee (http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/target-mcauliffe-wins-big-gun-control) for MSNBC, the network founded by Microsoft and defense contractor General Electric. “Democrats in southern and Midwestern states often tip-toe around the gun issue, wary of turning off middle-of-the-road voters who nonetheless support strong gun rights.”

MSNBC insists it is the “cultural tone-deafness” of Republicans that led to the defeat and it is supercharging a renewed effort to outlaw the Second Amendment following the defeat of gun legislation in Congress earlier this year. Long-time gun-grabber Senator Dianne Feinstein (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/11/03/dianne-feinstein-gun-control_n_4209892.html), a California Democrat, renewed her pledge to deny Second Amendment rights to Americans following the LAX shooting last week.

“Would I do a bill? Sure I’d do a bill. I believe this down deep in my soul,” Feinstein told CBS’ “Face the Nation” on Sunday.

“I think there’s a hammerlock on the Congress by the gun owners and gun people, and it doesn’t matter,” she said.

The Democrat win in Virginia is largely about a concerted effort to loosen that “hammerlock” and reintroduce legislation that will pave the way for the eventual disarmament of the American people.

This was truly predictable. Terry McAuliffe is an absolute slim bag--I expect nothing less in today's political landscape.

Yes....Unlike DC....we don't have to worry about the law to plan a 5000 person open non violent carry march right to the steps of the Governors mansion

Gun control is not happening in VA. The Republicans have a supermajority in the House of Delegates and even Chuck Todd tweeted last night that democratic operatives think Bloomberg's massive spending down the stretch actually hurt McAuliffe. Gun control is not a winning issue.
