Since fellow modern democracy Israel has TSA style security freedom cehckpoints outside their shopping malls, restaurants, sports arenas.. why doesn't US has same level of security at all public locations?

Has .50 BMG been banned in NJ yet? If so, Christie better call an emergency legislature session to deal with that. Just in case.

I guess we'll need TSA VIPR teams and metal detectors at mall entrances soon.

First reports are shooter is wearing motorcycle gear and scuba tanks? WTF?

Sounds like some malls here in Colombia. They have bomb sniffing dogs at the entrance to the parking garages and you have to open your doors and trunk for the dog to get a sniff. If you have a bag with you it goes through the x-ray machine before entering...

At least it's private security.

So, in other words, the US is on the way to banana republic status soon.

Well when you live in a country where shopping mall and civilian target bombings were a common occurrence just a few years ago (still happens, just not as much), you like to see that the mall has beefed up security. I wouldn't want it to be government providing the security, but as long as it's private security I'm fine with it. If I don't want to go through the screening process, I don't have to go there. It's private property and the property owner has every right to protect it from terrorist bombings.

I remember the malls in Israel. Hundreds of teenagers (on weekend leaves) walking around with semi automatic rifles.

You might guess that Philippines is like Colombia, Eduardo. It's sort of funny to see these guys at the mall doors. They have these little one foot dowel sticks and poke around in women's purses. They look like some kind of fussy nanny, properly holding those sticks with extended fingers.

If you're an American, then they sort of give you this disgusted look as if to say, "Go in already. I know you not a bomber."

Heh.

What is wrong with being like our closest ally in whole world and only democracy in mideast? NY and NJ have lot of Israel supporters, it won't be too far fetched for them to have same security measures for public places for many reasons especially in post 9/11 era when unarmed black mothers get whacked in White Hoouse neigborhood due to "high alert".

Besides, wasn't it NJ governor who said there is no daylight between US and Israel? If so, why not put no daylight between their security state and US states security freedom?

Presidential candidates always getting a picture taken at the wailing wall ... why is that picture necessary. I mean, it really doesn't prove anything.

Oh, and he looks ridiculous in that picture.

So what do people think about security at various events in the U.S? I won't go to an NFL game any more because I am not going to spread eagle for a wand or be frisked. Found out from a person that the Atlanta Braves do the same thing. I skipped an Allman Bros. concert because I wasn't sure what they would do. I had planned to go to Warren Haynes' Christmas show, but they also frisk. I'd really like to show my wife some of these events, but it's not worth it to me. Screw it.

Fortunately there are some events that are more low key. Glad my wife loves racing because NASCAR is lower key. There are also certain concerts, shows, and hockey where you can just walk in the door.

No flying. No federal buildings. No sporting events. No malls. I stay off the roads for the cop happy holidays. I generally stay away from where people congregate. I don't drive through checkpoints and I don't answer questions during traffic stops.

Here we go again

Where are we going?

A over hyped story,, a non story.
A huge and wasteful police response to ,,,, nothing.

I remember something said by some quoted functionary from the LAX story comparing the terminal to a Mall.
I suppose this is expected..

More Police State coming to a mall near you. :(

And here I thought we had great gun control in this state.

Since fellow modern democracy Israel has TSA style security freedom cehckpoints outside their shopping malls, restaurants, sports arenas.. why doesn't US has same level of security at all public locations?
Having been there, its absolutely nothing like the TSA. They have all the machinery, but only use it when there are attacks or threats. Sometimes they wand your bag or just ask if you have a weapon (lolwut?). They probably just eye you to see if you look suspicious. Heck, even at central bus stations Ive seen them just let people in without ANYTHING. I was thinking "What the heck? Am I still in Israel?"

Presidential candidates always getting a picture taken at the wailing wall ... why is that picture necessary. I mean, it really doesn't prove anything.
I am a semi-religious, Zionist Jew and I really cant understand why they do it. Ive been to the wall a dozen times maybe, so I guess I can run for president now lmao. If I ever did run and the media stirs up a fuss about me going there and committing, I could say "been there, done that, got the t-shirt (I do!)" But its really annoying and just stirs up the conspiracy theorists and Israel haters.

I heard the national guard was deployed in the middle of the night to patrol around...and they were not permitted to have weapons. Just walk around looking like they mean business. Conclude what you want. lol
