Please allow me to update you on some of this week's happenings in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Paul Plans to Hold Janet Yellen's Nomination
This week, I issued a letter (http://ct.symplicity.com/t/pau/f77fb0e4757393857e582801771f852e/1401316643/realurl=http:/www.paul.senate.gov/files/documents/Reid_Yellenletter.pdf) to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announcing my intent to hold the nomination of Dr. Janet Yellen as the Chairman of the Federal Reserve unless S. 209 (http://ct.symplicity.com/t/pau/f77fb0e4757393857e582801771f852e/1401316643/realurl=http:/www.paul.senate.gov/files/documents/AYO13082.pdf), the Federal Reserve Transparency Act, is also considered.
The American people have a right to know what this institution is doing with the nation's money supply. The Federal Reserve does not need prolonged secrecy - it needs to be audited and my bipartisan Federal Reserve Transparency Act will do just that.

Dr. Rand Paul Joins the American Energy Jobs Rally
On Tuesday, I joined more than 30 members of Congress to participate in the American Energy Jobs Rally organized by Count on Coal campaign. At the rally, I discussed the Environmental Protection Agency's abusive and harmful tactics that are ravaging American energy jobs.
EPA regulations are an outrageous affront to families and communities that have relied on coal mining to sustain their livelihood for generations. Through onerous regulations, excessive compliance costs, permitting delays and unreasonable environmental requirements, they have taken aim at an industry that employs and powers this country. I will continue to fight against the Obama Administration's war on coal.

Dr. Paul Meets with Members of the Envelope Manufacturers Association
This week, I met with members of the Envelope Manufacturers Association, including Brooks Bower, the Chairman and CEO of Papercone Corporation of Louisville. We discussed postal reform and other pieces of legislation that directly affect the Louisville community.

Dr. Paul Demands Answers Regarding NSA Targeting Pope Francis
On Thursday, I submitted a Senate Resolution (http://ct.symplicity.com/t/pau/f77fb0e4757393857e582801771f852e/1401316643/realurl=http:/www.paul.senate.gov/files/documents/NSARes.pdf) demanding that President Obama provide an explanation for reports indicating that the National Security Agency targeted the Vatican (the governing body of the Catholic Church).
The president was not aware the NSA was monitoring phone calls of the Chancellor of Germany; I wonder if the president was aware that we may have been monitoring the phone calls of the pope. It does not do any good for diplomacy to be spying on the pope and I want an explanation from the president.

Dr. Paul Calls for the Release of Pastor Saeed Abedini
Earlier today, I joined as a co-sponsor of a Senate Resolution (http://ct.symplicity.com/t/pau/f77fb0e4757393857e582801771f852e/1401316643/realurl=http:/www.paul.senate.gov/files/documents/MRW13835.pdf) calling for the government of Iran to immediately release Pastor Saeed Abedini and all other individuals detained on account of their religious beliefs.
Saeed Abedini is an American pastor who has been imprisoned indefinitely due to his Christian faith. Across the globe, Christians are under attack and this Administration is doing nothing to stop it. This reasonable resolution calls on the government of Iran to release Abedini and all other individuals detained on account of their religious beliefs. I will continue to do all that I can to protect American citizens from religious persecution abroad.
