I doubt state party delegates are going to dump Lee at their state convention.

We need to primary Orrin Hatch.

If the political class do not like him, he must be doing a great job representing the people.

I hope they waste a lot of money on this doomed to fail effort.

On Tuesday, 79-year old Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT), now serving his seventh term in the Senate, signaled that he and other members of the Republican establishment are likely to encourage a primary challenge to first term Senator Mike Lee (R-UT).

So a sitting Senator is calling for a Primary of his fellow sitting Senator from the same State and same Party? I was under the impression that this was bad form, if not a violation of some Party policy.

Just imagine the hissy fit the establishment republicans would have if Rand endorsed McConnell's opponent.

It would be nice to see Hatch get censured by a bunch of the county parties in Utah for this.

Who has forgotten about this?

Orrin Hatch: I'm a tea party person

Calling himself a tea party true believer, Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) on Tuesday in the same interview both praised the debt ceiling deal and said he plans to vote against it.
...
“Look, I think the tea party people deserve a lot of credit,” he said in response to a question about Democrats and Vice President Joe Biden reportedly calling freshman GOP members of Congress terrorists.

“We wouldn’t be where we are without them. The fact of the matter is I’ve been a tea party person I think since before the tea party came into existence. I was one of the earliest supporters of Reagan. And all I can say is that, you know, it’s nice to throw that kind of language around, but the tea party people have helped bring about a change where they’re not going to increase taxes on this particular approach, and, yeah, the new joint committee could increase taxes, but I don’t believe that any Republican on there is going to want to increase taxes.”

It is bad form and almost unheard of.

Mike Lee is a good guy this is too bad. I think he can still win the primary.

It would be VERY interesting to see what Hatch would do if Lee wins the primary.

he only won the primary by 2%

But he's a sitting senator now. Sitting senators almost never are successfully primaried.

Plus isn't he popular, especially with the base?

And like somebody said, a nominating convention is a great scenario for activists to overpower big money.

And like somebody said, a nominating convention is a great scenario for activists to overpower big money.

That's why they're planning to get rid of the convention before the election. If I recall correctly, they've raised $5 million for that effort.

The corrupt Republican Party always goes after people who stand on principle like Mike Lee. They much prefer McCain, Graham, Christie, etc.

"Good form" is a professional courtesy extended from one "system-safe" parasite to other "system-safe" parasites.
It is only for when the Party Establishment glad-handers & good ol' boys are in control of the situation.
Threaten that control in any way, and the veneer of "good form" is cast aside and the gloves come off ...
