U.S. marshals, police arrest more than 100

ROCKY MOUNT — Arrests poured in faster than the federal marshal could count.
A poster touting 95 arrests and 232 warrants served sat on an easel behind the podium where U.S. Marshal Scott Parker stood Thursday. Parker updated the total to 99 arrests and 243 warrants.
"As I speak, individuals are being arrested at this time,” Parker said.
Moments later, officials said the tally had topped 100.
Police, sheriff’s deputies and deputy U.S. marshals captured more than 100 people wanted on violent crime and drug charges in a two-week roundup dubbed Operation Spider Web. Parker announced the arrests in a Thursday news conference in Rocky Mount’s city council chambers.
"This is just one step, one tool that we’ll utilize on a regular basis,” Parker said. "We’ll never give up. We’ll never stop fighting this battle. We’ll be back, we ain’t leaving, and it won’t be a year. That’s all I’ve got to say.”
Authorities began the operation on Oct. 3 and added dozens of arrests in a roundup that began Tuesday morning and continued through Thursday. One suspect accused of shooting into a house faces an attempted murder charge.
