RLC Endorses McGeehan for US Senate.

RLC Endorses McGeehan for US Senate

Washington, DC – Former West Virginia House of Delegates Rep Pat McGeehan has won the endorsement of the Republican Liberty Caucus (RLC) National Committee in his GOP primary for United States Senate from West Virginia.

“Pat McGeehan has shown leadership skills badly needed in the Senate,” said RLC National Chair Matt Nye. "Receiving the Republican Liberty Caucus endorsement is a testament to his commitment to the principles of individual liberty, limited government, and free enterprise.”

The West Virginia RLC Charter voted unanimously last week to recommend McGeehan be endorsed. RLC bylaws require that federal office endorsements be made by the National Committee upon recommendation of the state charter. The state charters may endorse state legislative and gubernatorial candidates without input from the national organization.

“I am very pleased that the RLC National Board saw in Pat McGeehan qualities which we in the West Virginia Charter have known for years. He is a great Republican candidate and will serve as an excellent Senator,” said Atlantic Region Director and West Virginia RLC Secretary Stephanie Butcher.

“Pat McGeehan is a constitutional conservative who will stand with Senators Rand Paul, Ted Cruz and Mike Lee in the United States Senate,” Butcher said. “His work during his time in the state legislature proves he is the conservative choice in this election.”

Nye added, “At the Republican Liberty Caucus we believe that less government means more liberty. We advocate the principles of individual rights, limited government, and free enterprise. We work in the Republican Party because we believe it is the best vehicle for bringing about the political changes we want and we believe that Pat McGeehan will become part of the growing number of Liberty Republicans advancing those goals in Washington.”

McGeehan is a native West Virginian residing in Chester, WV with his eight year old daughter, Kennedy. He graduated from the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, and served as an Air Force Intelligence Officer, including a tour in the Middle East and Afghanistan, after the unfortunate 9/11 attacks.

McGeehan served in the West Virgnia House of Delegates from 2008 to 2010 and holds the record for the most "No" votes in a single term. He was well known for a number of conservative bills he introduced, including: Firearms Freedom Act, Repeal Income Tax, Repeal Food Tax, Repeal Corporate Tax, and many others.

Senate Conservatives Fund says that they will not support Capito. Pat McGeehan is the only other candidate they are tracking at this point:

This race just pisses me off. Clearly, the primary winner will storm through the general into the Senate but by looking at Pat's website, he's not getting around and speaking like Brannon is. I mean, hitting up every GOP local and county group, every tea party outfit for starters. Then, after having amassed a solid volunteer squad w/ donations rolling in, do parades, canvassing, sign waves/postings to keep driving name rec. He could easily get all the conservative/libertarian PAC money and take this evil broad to pound town.

2 star overall.

Ideologically pure, but he's running a terrible campaign and the polling shows. This is no Greg Brannon. Capito will destroy him.

A big government, establishment lobbyist is coming to West Virginia to oppose Pat...

A political group for middle-of-the road Republicans founded by former Bainbridge Township congressman Steve LaTourette launching an online ad campaign designed to counter the influence of groups that he feels have pushed the party too far right.
...
LaTourette's group, called the Main Street Advocacy Fund, said it's the "opening salvo" in an $8 million effort. The group plans to back moderate GOP candidates for office, like West Virginia Senate hopeful Shelly Moore Capito, who might face opposition from less mainstream opponents, as well as the Republican who now holds LaTourette's congressional seat: Dave Joyce of Russell Township. LaTourette has also expressed interest in aiding a moderate candidate to challenge incumbent Tea Party Republican Rep. Justin Amash of Michigan.

Twitter is one thing, but he needs to speak to local groups and post video of those speeches on youtube, facebook, etc to build up some momentum and name recognition.

Agreed. If McGeehan seriously wants to beat Capito, he must get out and hit the campaign trail, speak at local Tea Party meetings, knock on doors, host events, etc.

PAT McGEEHAN ENDORSED: Pat McGeehan, a Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in West Virginia, has been endorsed by the National Republican Liberty Caucus, Lighthouse PAC, Republican Party leaders and a professional musician.

The RLC cited McGeehan's leadership skills in a press release.

"Receiving the Republican Liberty Caucus endorsement is a testament to his commitment to the principles of individual liberty, limited government and free enterprise," said Matt Nye, national RLC chairman, in a release.

Lighthouse PAC, a conservative national committee, supports candidates with strong conservative positions on immigration, education, and fiscal responsibility.

State Republican leaders, including Jim and Janie Hinebaugh, founders of the Grant County Patriots; Peter Onoszko, candidate for Jefferson County Commission; former Putnam County Delegate and Secretary of State GOP nominee Brian Savilla; and former Brooke County Republican Executive Committee Chairman Bill Smith have also endorsed McGeehan.

Jordan Page, an American musician, has also announced support for McGeehan's campaign.
