NEW YORK -- About 90 people gathered at a chapel in Brooklyn on Tuesday morning to say their last goodbyes to Stamford resident Miriam Carey, nearly two weeks after she was shot to death by law enforcement officers during a high-speed chase in Washington D.C.
Speakers at the funeral painted a picture of her life and personality.
The 34-year-old single mother was a generous, loving sister -- one of five -- who was a passionate, fun-loving cook who made meals for an extended family in Brooklyn that she considered the most important part of her life, Amy Carey-Jones (http://www.ctpost.com/?controllerName=search&action=search&channel=local&search=1&inlineLink=1&query=%22Amy+Carey-Jones%22), one of her sisters, told mourners.
She also was ambitious, sharing with her sisters a plan to move beyond her work as a dental hygienist to get a master's degree in a health field, Carey-Jones said.
Photos of a beaming Miriam filled the chapel, and a video tribute and slides showed a mostly smiling Miriam Carey from her childhood through graduation from Brooklyn College (http://www.ctpost.com/?controllerName=search&action=search&channel=local&search=1&inlineLink=1&query=%22Brooklyn+College%22). She was praised by her colleagues for her "delightful bedside manner," the program for the service read.
The private service began at 11 a.m. after Carey's mother and four sisters arrived at the Grace Funeral Chapels in Brooklyn, as police guarded the entrances. Family members declined to comment before or after the funeral, but friends of the family spoke of Carey as a kind-hearted person with a full life ahead of her.
"Such a beautiful lady. Young, professional and educated. Such a sad time," said Brooklyn resident Geoffrey Davis (http://www.ctpost.com/?controllerName=search&action=search&channel=local&search=1&inlineLink=1&query=%22Geoffrey+Davis%22), 50, a friend of Carey's sister Valarie.
Davis said the Miriam Carey he heard family and friends speak of at the service bore little resemblance to the woman depicted in the media.
Another family friend, Gail Johnson (http://www.ctpost.com/?controllerName=search&action=search&channel=local&search=1&inlineLink=1&query=%22Gail+Johnson%22), called Carey's death "a terrible loss to the family. But the family is strong. She had a great heart."
Carey is survived by her 1-year-old daughter, Erica, who was in the vehicle during the Oct. 3 car chase through the streets of Washington.

thanks for the update

Anytime. I was looking to see an update or any apology from US Congress who gave "thank you" buttons to DC Police after it killed unarmed Miriam Carey after she made a wrong turn in wrong neighborsood, panicked when plain-clothed/unformed men drew guns on her with her daughter in the car and for "looking suspicious" perhaps:
