View Full Version : Army: Budget Cuts Threaten Our War-Fighting Ability

Army leaders say budget cuts are going to hinder the military branch's ability to fight even "one major war," and they're telling the Pentagon the issue must be addressed because another conflict is only a matter of time.

The Army's position was disclosed in a USA Today report citing documents that were sent to the Defense Department as part of the Quadrennial Defense Review, undertaken by the military every four years. The report, however, cited a budget analyst who said the Army can in fact shrink and still be an effective fighting force.

"They will just have to fight differently," the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments' Todd Harrison told the paper. "If you can't even fight one war, what's the point of having an army?".

Actually, the sequester calls for a general increase in budgets. But yeah, since the US shouldn't be currently involved in any war and there is even the suggestion of a possibly needed war for the next 5 years, it seems to me that someone complained because his budget isn't growing as fast as it did under the previous boss and he feels inadequate because of that. Don't worry Sir, your job really isn't to expand your budget as fast as possible, despite what you might beleive.

LOL! The propaganda "tools" of former military establishment warmongers who are PAID to tow the MIC talking points stating on FOX NEWS, "The Army is worn out, their equipment is tired and old, but the Army has always come through for America." Man this PRAVDA style mind control is just getting simply ridiculous.

BTW, In June, Congress increased the DOD budget for FY2014 budget by another $28.1 Billion. LOL!

How is the largest military budget on earth insufficient for even one war?

How much do they think a war should cost?

Maybe we could save some money if our military was actually here defending us. I have this image of some country invading us and our generals saying "Holy Crap! We don't have anybody here! They're all overseas!"

They are thinking BIG war. None of these half-assed, pansy, regime-change wars.

How much do they think a war should cost?

How much you got?

According to comments in the article, individual battalions get their funds and budget the same way cities do? Any unspent money = less money given next year.

hmmm...well, my opinion is that these bastards in the Military trying to make a case for more money are in fact traitors. They truly don't have the best interests in the well being of this country and need to be arrested and thrown in jail for life.

This is what annoys me about neocons. They claim to be pro 2nd amendment, but the 2nd amendment was in place because the founders disliked standing Armies. So now we have the most bloated military force in history, scattered in 130+ countries. Then "liberals" say we don't need a 2nd because we have the bloated Army.

We need the 2nd amendment and a free people, not a damned empire where we get anal probed and disarmed to get on an airplane because we pissed off every other country on the planet!

We have the LARGEST military budget in the entire world... on the whole planet Earth... and they are pretending it is not enough? Seriously?

Sounds like the war making business is not a very good investment.

Tell the DOD to pull that 2 trillion out of their ass that they somehow misplaced back in 2001.

Somehow, cutting ANY amount from a military budget almost as big as the rest of the world's combined is supposed to make us unable to defend ourselves. That can only POSSIBLY be true if it's an admission of being ludicrously overstretched and forced to be in too many places at one time...and so there's an obvious solution. ;)

No worries, just stop by a few dozen small town police stations (less than population of 1000 or lowest imaginable crime rates preferable) and you'll have enough armored vehicles, automatic firepower, and munitions to get through a couple World Wars.

Humm.... why doesn't Canada or Mexico have this problem? Oh that's right, they don't have undeclared wars at the drop of a hat.

Maybe we should do the same as them and save some money, huh?

Let's keep the defense spending and cut the offense spending entirely.

That's not whose profile is whored out to encourage or guilt-trip bipartisan support of [by and large] corporate efforts.

They have such "bad" (depending on whose perspective you look through) accounting practices that they make numbers up to fit the budget they were given. It isn't as if they [actually] buy a bolt for $2,000. They buy the bolt for a penny (or less) and add the $1,999.99 on it to subtract from the total amount missing. An audit is impossible; the waste, theft, and fraud is so rampant.
