A proposal to end the government shutdown and avoid default orchestrated by Republican Leader Mitch McConnell and Democratic Leader Harry Reid includes a $2 billion earmark for a Kentucky project.

Language in a draft of the McConnell-Reid deal (see page 13, section 123) provided to WFPL News shows a provision that increases funding for the massive Olmsted Dam Lock in Louisville from $775 million to nearly $2. 9 billion.

Remind me, those that defended Ron Paul's, why earmarks are acceptable? This is pure bribery and attempted vote-buying.

Mitch built a dam to hold the waters back while America burned.

Did Mitch McConnell vote for it? Ron Paul never voted for the bills.

Earmarks are preferable to allowing the executive branch to spend money that has already been apportioned to the bill.

However in this case they may have apportioned extra for the specific purposes of payoffs, whereas Ron Paul was voting against the bill anyway so he merely helped the government spend money they were already going to spend anyway, and likely on much better stuff than what the President would have spent it on.

At least one person is benefiting from the IRS scandal targeting tea party groups: Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
The Senate GOP leader on Tuesday won the endorsement of one of the groups targeted by the agency, TheTeaParty.net, a national tea party group. The endorsement will help the GOP leader defend himself back home as some tea party activists are still searching for a primary challenger against him during his 2014 reelection campaign.

McConnell more than ever,” said Niger Innis, the chief strategist of TheTeaParty.net. “He was sounding the alarm about the government’s assault on our First Amendment rights years ago, even when it fell on deaf ears. We all owe Sen. McConnell a debt for his vision and courage.”

McConnell has been on a warpath following the IRS revelations last week, clearly sensing an opening to attack an agency despised by voters while ingratiating himself to elements of his party’s right-wing that have been skeptical about some of his votes during his three-decade Senate career. His team has been aggressively wooing tea party activists in Kentucky over the last several months, though some in the Bluegrass State are still searching for a viable alternative.

The sad thing is, I still think McConnell will win. Ousting the Senate GOP Leader in a primary is next to impossible, and while McConnell is unpopular, he won by five points in 2008 in what was a huge democratic year with Obama. 2014 should be a Republican year, so while people in Kentucky as a whole probably doesn't want McConnell, I wouldn't be surprised if they want a Democrat even less.

In a state Obama lost by 16%

lol I was just going to say that. Way to underperform... McCain.... of all people. :P

The cloture vote and this deal have lit a fire in Kentucky - just these last few weeks Bevin's campaign is struggling to respond to all the calls, emails and material requests that have been pouring in. Random people I've met in public are starting to see my Bevin gear and get all excited. I've been supporting him for a while, but it really feels like we're turning and corner and this is becoming a serious race.

Also... the grassroots Tea Parties are supporting Matt. Around 17 of them put out a joint press release endorsing him. There are some national "Tea Party" groups the Establishment funded to co-opt us endorsing him... but even those are taking the heat from members and dropping him like a hot potato. Different group but... heh heh:

Tea Party Nation Withdraws Its Endorsement Of Mitch McConnell

http://www.rightwingnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Mitch-McConnell.jpg

Mitch McConnell has been a disaster as the GOP’s “leader” in the Senate and he’s extremely unpopular in Kentucky. In a sane world, some of the heavy hitters in the Republican Party would pull him aside and tell him that he needs to retire instead of risking a crucial seat in deep red Kentucky, but sadly we’re not that lucky.

Instead, conservatives have to hope that Matt Bevin can defeat the GOP Establishment in Kentucky and the deep pocketed Todd Akin….ehr, Mitch McConnell in what’s sure to be a bruising primary, so he can attempt to save a seat that should be a gimmie.

Happily, that task got a little easier because Tea Party Nation has yanked its early endorsement of Mitch McConnell because of his scandalous behind the scenes comments...

AND, This is How It's Done In Washington DC...

This morning on FACE THE NATION, CBS' Bob Schieffer opened the propaganda show with his first professional actor, lifetime US Senate minority GOP leader Mitch McConnell. McConnell caved-in for ObamaCare and it was discovered there was a $2.9 Billion "Kentucky Kickback" pork project included in the bill. Now let's document what Mitch stated on the airwaves when questioned about the "Kentucky Kickback" bill. You're going to read political bullshit 101 below, from McConnell's mouth trying to pawn the Kentucky Kickback onto; Obama, Army Core of Engineers, Senators Lamar Alexander and Dianne Feinstein, everyone but himself and his past push(lobbying) for the project. Pretty pathetic responses by McConnell. He's Done

Schieffer, You know, while people here (WTF is Bob Schieffer talking about "people here") were giving you credit, the one that was able together with the Democrats and broker this deal. Back in your home state of Kentucky, the Tea Party folks went nuts. I mean, you are going to have a Tea Party candidate opposing you, in the Republican primary. uhhhh, ah, they say they are more determined than ever to beat you. They even accused you of taking a kickback. They said in this (McConnell chuckles) legislation, there's a provision, uh, that provides a way to get $2 Billion to fund a damn project in Kentucky. (McConnell chuckles again) What is that(the pork bill) all about?"

McConnell, ah, well it has been wildly reported it was a provision, requested by the president and the 'Core of Engineers' and, id, uh suggested by a Senator from Tennessee and a Senator from California.... that actually saves the taxpayers a $160 million dollars. Rarely in a spending bill do you have a provision that saves $160 million dollars for the taxpayer."

Schieffer, "But, uh, did you have anything to do with putting that provision in that legislation?

McConnell, "It was put in by Senator Alexander and Senator Feinstein, senators from Tennessee and California, because it saved $160 Million for the taxpayers."

Schieffer, "And, and, you lobbied for that project before, I mean it is a Kentucky project."

McConnell, "In, in, past years, yeah. In past years, uh the damn, sets, uh, in the important, uh, inland waterway between Kentucky and Ohio, long standing project and it doesn't just benefit Kentucky, it benefits the whole inland waterway system. Ahhh, and, it's extremely important to the commerce that flows down the central part of the United States, Yes."
