Video: Edward Snowden wins Sam Adams award

Friday, 11 October 2013, 22:30 UTC

This week Edward Snowden received the Integrity Award from the Sam Adams Associates for Integrity in Intelligence. These videos from the award ceremony are the first of Mr Snowden after being granted asylum in Russia.

The videos show Mr Snowden as he was given the award by Ray McGovern (ex-CIA) who said "Sam Adams Associates are proud to honor Mr. Snowden’s decision to heed his conscience and give priority to the Common Good over concerns about his own personal future. We are confident that others with similar moral fiber will follow his example in illuminating dark corners and exposing crimes that put our civil rights as free citizens in jeopardy.... Just as Private Manning and Julian Assange exposed criminality with documentary evidence, Mr. Snowden’s beacon of light has pierced a thick cloud of deception. And, again like them, he has been denied some of the freedoms that whistleblowers have every right to enjoy."

Also present at the ceremony was WikiLeaks journalist Sarah Harrison who took Mr Snowden from Hong Kong to Moscow and obtained his asylum. The previous award winners, all United States Government whistleblowers, Thomas Drake (NSA), Jesselyn Raddack (DoJ) and Coleen Rowley (FBI), were also in attendance. These videos were filmed on the October 9 and are released for the first time today.

I recall hearing the Joker saying just the other day that what we really need is a better class of criminals. Or something like that.

Edward Snowden is a great American hero.

Wasn't it risky for him to leave the place where he is staying at to travel to what appears to be a Moscow public building to receive the award? and risky to travel back to the place where he's staying at. Someone could follow him.

Snowden should have just stayed in the US, kept his yap shut and badgered anyone who voted for Obama, don't you think? That should be Rand and Ron Paul's focus too.

This. He could have run for Senate or the House, probably blackmailed the crap out of his opponents with the info he would have on them, and win and sit up in D.C. making a nice $160K+ a year doing absolutely nothing.

Then, in a few years, he could run for President, maybe raise $60+ million...but not really be serious about winning, and just say it's about the message.

After losing the presidential race (heck, maybe he could have won it, he would have the files on his opponents and their emails/phone conversations that he could leak to the press himself), he could start an Ed Snowden Channel and charge $10 a month for it?

He clearly has this whole liberty thing backwards. Money first, then the message, and then maybe actions. He did it completely in reverse...

So you want to get rid of the evil corrupt tyrants by becoming more like them?

Very pathetic.

I have no such wish for him, but I do believe he should face charges of espionage.

I'd much rather see him in a small concrete box sharing an hour of conversation a week with the Unabomber.

We as a country are looking very weak, when a traitor can walk out in the open in Russia of all places. To have Putin as a friend should tell everyone what Snowden really is. He may be smug now, but hopefully Obama will take care of business and get Snowden back here for trial before his Presidency ends. If Snowden was a Russian citizen and he did to Russia what he did to us, he would not be walking around and getting awards.

"Our" government and "our" consent, Snowden?

You left, so I guess it's not yours anymore. I love this country with all of its flaws. I served this country in the Marines and that helped me go on for six years of college.

Don't call it "ours" anymore.

BRAVA! it's not his anymore...not sure it ever was. Doesn't matter how hard he tries to spin this or justify his actions, he's a traitor, pure and simple. If he believed in his convictions, he would have stayed and gone to jail

So traitors are being rewarded, now. Who's next the KKK,the WBC and other hate groups rewarded for Freedom of Speech?

That's just on the first page.
