USPS To Destroy "Just Move" Stamp Series Over Safety Concerns

With the Just Move! stamp issuance the U.S. Postal Service hoped to raise awareness about the importance of physical activity in achieving a healthy lifestyle. However, according to Linns Stamp News, the USPS will be destroying the entire press run after receiving concerns from the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition over alleged “unsafe” acts depicted on three of the stamps (cannonball dive, skateboarding without kneepads and a headstand without a helmet). (There’s also a batter without a batting helmet, a girl balancing on a slippery rock, and a soccer player without kneepads or shin pads.)

The "Just Move" stamps:

The Twist and Stretch seems to be the most dangerous activities show, IMO. And when has anyone ever seen a person wear a helmet for a headstand?

I played soccer for twelve years and never ONCE saw ANYONE in "kneepads." And shinguard? They ENCOURAGED people to use their legs like armored clubs.

They were trying to make headers illegal and then the realized that the players would ignore that rule. Although, in AYSO they might very well be illegal.

What is really hilarious, and most clearly demonstrates the rulers true lack comprehension: KIDS DON'T WRITE LETTERS, YOU DOLTS. If they wanted to get safety messages across to "kids" of the day, they should put them subliminally in porn.
The stamp they should ban is the one that depicts grandparents at an orgy. Because Grandparents and Corporations have the snail mail cornered. I do not mean to demean a letter from a grandparent, by the way, or anyone for that matter. People have ceased participating in the active creation of literature. Read a letter written by an everyday American in the 1850's 1860's and so on. Prepare your vocabulary for embarrassment.

The only reason professional players use shin pads is because of crampons. But I have never seen kids play football in sneakers with crampons on them. There is no need for kneepads at all.

Yeah, I can see that. I never played with steel, but have played against it and the guards were certainly helpful.

Not surprising - here's another recent headline:
School bans most balls during recess (http://www.cnn.com/2013/10/09/living/parents-middle-school-bans-balls-recess/index.html)

That's what parents are asking after hearing about a Long Island middle school's decision to ban most balls during recess and also require supervision of tag, even cartwheels, due to safety concerns.

No longer allowed at the Weber Middle School in Port Washington, New York: footballs, baseballs, soccer balls, lacrosse balls and any other hardballs that could injure a child. Also off limits: rough games of tag and cartwheels unless an adult supervisor is on hand.

So, how about doing something to save the stamps and their anti-safety nazi message?

To whom it may concern:

Pursuant to the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act, I request a copy of all communications (letters, emails, memos) at the offices of the President's Council on Fitness Sports and Nutrition with the United States Postal Service concerning the "Just Move" postage stamp series, between May 2013 and the present.

This is a noncommercial request that falls into the fee category "all other requesters". I agree to pay fees up to $25 if necessary.

Signed,

You don't have to say you will pay anything and they are supposed to give you something like the first 20-50 pages free. If enough people request it, it gets fast tracked (and they don't charge). If a news organization requests it, it gets fast tracked. Lets make sure the press gets wind of this.

Also, the USPS Inspector General is responsible for Waste, Fraud and Abuse. This is clearly WASTE of US taxpayers money, FRAUD on the US taxpayers and ABUSE of common sense and power to obtain a nanny state political objective.

Contact the IG often and tell your friends too... oh, just one thing...

Now why do I get the feeling that the people that will be destroying those stamps will be "essential employees?

 The hypocrisy!

Rope climbing with no fall arresting harness.

Cartwheeling without a H.A.N.S. device.

Swinging without g force measuring devices and accelerometers to prevent whiplash injury.

Walking and Running without full body padding.

Juggling without protective eyewear, faceshield and helmet.

Pikers...

Ya know... if an announcement went out and went viral that these really cool stamps were becoming available and to run down to your local PO to pick some up... Maybe even that 1c of every stamp would be donated to little league...

Yeah, the reaction might be interesting...

jus sayin...

Maybe they could replace the "Just Move" stamps with "American Gun" stamps. Colt 1911 .45 ACP stamp, M1 Garand stamp, Thompson Submachine Gun stamp, Browning Automatic Rifle stamp etc.

USPS might make money on this, as the withdrawn stamps will be hoarded, not used.

I have been wondering something for years but have been too shy to ask, hoping that I would figure it out eventually. Alas no such epiphany has occurred.

What in the world does "h/t" mean?

What mad cow said. By using it, you are "tipping your hat" in acknowledgement. It also sometimes appears as "H/T" or "HT."

It's a way of saying, "This person gets credit for revealing this to me or bringing it to my attention. I didn't find it on my own."

I took my kid to the woods today and let him balance beam walk on dozens of slippery felled trees and many covered with moss. I did not give him a helmet nor knee pads and I also failed to have him completely enveloped in a giant airbag system. Please, nobody tell CPS.

Yes, god forbid someone should receive a letter with one of these.

Citizens Stamp Advisory Committee files protest against USPS stamp program management

Linn’s Stamp News reports that the the Citizens Stamp Advisory Committee (CSAC) “staged an unprecedented protest” at its September quarterly meeting, suspending the session, and sending a letter to the Postmaster General requesting a meeting. The actions come in the wake of tension between the committee and USPS stamp service management.

The committee, which is appointed by the PMG, has thirteen members, including a former Postmaster General and a former USPS Governor. Linn’s says that all of the members signed the letter.

The report, by Linn’s correspondent Bill McAllister, notes that while the letter did not name either USPS Marketing chief Nagisa Manabe or stamp services executive Susan McGovern, USPS sources told the magazine that “the committee is upset with both women, and what they see as a diminished role they have given CSAC in the stamp selection process.”

The CSAC protest follows last week’s news that an entire press run of stamps was to be destroyed for promoting unsafe activities for children, a decision which subjected both the USPS and the White House to ridicule; and the revelation that the USPS was paying celebrity futurist “Faith Popcorn” $1.5 million to predict the future of stamps.
