The bus stopped along a road when a large herd of bison passed nearby, and seniors filed out to take photos. Almost immediately, an armed ranger came by and ordered them to get back in, saying they couldn’t “recreate.” The tour guide, who had paid a $300 fee the day before to bring the group into the park, argued that the seniors weren’t “recreating,” just taking photos.

“She responded and said, ‘Sir, you are recreating,’ and her tone became very aggressive,” Vaillancourt said.

The seniors quickly filed back onboard and the bus went to the Old Faithful Inn, the park’s premier lodge located adjacent to the park’s most famous site, Old Faithful geyser. That was as close as they could get to the famous site — barricades were erected around Old Faithful, and the seniors were locked inside the hotel, where armed rangers stayed at the door.

“They looked like Hulk Hogans, armed. They told us you can’t go outside,” she said. “Some of the Asians who were on the tour said, ‘Oh my God, are we under arrest?’ They felt like they were criminals.”

Sounds like the Asians had it about right. To bad Americans don't recognize it as such.

These theatrics are getting old. The Obama administration is spending more to close these parks than they would to just leave them open.

You do realize that they make a lot of money charging got the privilege to erect a tent for a night in a national forest campground. These places MAKE MONEY for the government! Far in excess of what it costs to keep them open.

Now we know why the Park Service needed a half a million rounds of ammo.

And automatic weapons.

And their own SWAT teams.

Somebody is going to get lit up for "recreating".

And we'll see if Boobus decides to do anything about it.

A Busload of Cruelty

Used to be, we needed the TSA to abuse folks this badly (http://www.lewrockwell.com/2011/06/becky-akers/a-boatload-of-cruelty/). Now, with Leviathan’s faux “shutdown,” park rangers step up to the plate and brutalize a bus of older folks, many of them foreign tourists, caught inside Yellowstone National Park when said shutdown began:

The tourists were treated harshly by armed park employees (http://www.newburyportnews.com/local/x1442580373/Gestapo-tactics-meet-senior-citizens-at-Yellowstone), [Ms. Pat Vaillancourt, one of the passengers] said, so much so that some of the foreign tourists with limited English skills thought they were under arrest. When finally allowed to leave, the bus was not allowed to halt at all along the 2.5-hour trip out of the park, not even to stop at private bathrooms that were open along the route. “We’ve become a country of fear, guns and control,” said Vaillancourt… “It was like they brought out the armed forces. Nobody was saying, ‘we’re sorry,’ it was all like — ” as she clenched her fist and banged it against her forearm.

The article later mentions that “The Washington Times quoted an unnamed Park Service official who said park law enforcement personnel were instructed to ‘make life as difficult for people as we can. It’s disgusting.’”

“But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute tyranny, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government…”

You know what? I heard a lady got lit up for recreating with her baby in D.C. the other day.

But I guess if we want to be 'fair' about this we need to wait for a more compliant mundane to get lit up recreating

The link in the first Post isn't working for me:

http://www.newburyportnews.com/local/x1442580373/Gestapo-tactics-meet-senior-citizens-at-Yellowstone

NEWBURYPORT — Pat Vaillancourt went on a trip last week that was intended to showcase some of America’s greatest treasures.

Instead, the Salisbury resident said she and others on her tour bus witnessed an ugly spectacle that made her embarrassed, angry and heartbroken for her country. (That's how I feel)

".... The bus trip made headlines in Livingston, where the local newspaper Livingston Enterprise interviewed the tour guide, Gordon Hodgson, who accused the park service of “Gestapo tactics.”

“The national parks belong to the people,” he told the Enterprise. “This isn’t right.”

Calls to Yellowstone’s communications office were not returned, as most of the personnel have been furloughed.

Many of the foreign visitors were shocked and dismayed by what had happened and how they were treated, Vaillancourt said.

“A lot of people who were foreign said they wouldn’t come back (to America),” she said......"

Imagine if you are in a foreign country to go on vacation to sight see and see some natural parks, and you have VERY LITTLE understanding of the language. And guys with guns showed up and locked you in a hotel...Then when you got out to take pictures walking out of a tour bus, MORE guys with guns showed up and told you to get back on the bus....And finally your group was THREATENED to avoid making rest stops.

It's beyond third world country, it's worst than communism. No one would ever want to experience that kind of imprisonment during a vacation ever again.

This is not the first time I've heard of tourists being frightened of the U.S. I hear it more and more. And it pisses me off and saddens me when I hear people talking about not wanting to go to America. Or saying the whole TSA experience was Terrible and they wouldn't want to go back. Or saying it's not safe and a scary place to go. etc. etc. That's not good! We need tourists, we need their money, I don't understand why the US does not value tourism $$$.

You would think a government that is ESPECIALLY desperate for every penny would actually think about making it a friendlier place to encourage tourists.

2 weeks ago, I met someone who did a trip to USA over the summer and described a 30+ minute interview with his family of 4 just to get through immigration.

What the fuck is this country doing.
