i'd agree with you in principle, but there is the option of these being funded by those that participate, benefactors, etc. the whole "public" schooling is another issue, but I also tend to think that sports for kids is a pretty good thing, and if you draw the line at athletics what does that say about art, music, and drama (subjects that I just hated) or woodshop and auto mechanics?
