Just before the weekend, the National Park Service informed charter boat captains in Florida that the Florida Bay was "closed" due to the shutdown. Until government funding is restored, the fishing boats are prohibited from taking anglers into 1,100 square-miles of open ocean. Fishing is also prohibited at Biscayne National Park during the shutdown.

Good grief! I expected this to be an Onion article. So how much money is the federal government spending to have boats patrolling the area in question to tell people that they can't fish there because the government is shut down?

How do we make this backfire on them? This is collective punishment.It's hard for me to believe that there is anyone out there, who is capable of writing their own name, would not see the obvious. If the government was really shut down, people could not be stopped form using a bay, people could not be forced out of their homes at lake Mead, and people could not be stopped from seeing/visiting Mount Rushmore or the Grand Canyon or The WW2 Memorial. Only an active and vindictive government could stop people.
