I'm sure the script will be that the shooting was entirely justified... no one will question the shooting. She posed an apparent threat to the Capitol AND the White House, for heaven's sake. We can't take chances with that sort of thing. What if she had been a terrorist?!? What if she was crazy?!? What if she caused a Capitol Policeman or - GAWD FORBID a Congressman (whose office is ordained by God, do not forget - the Constitution was divinely inspired)!?!

That was the most ridiculous press conference I have ever seen. There was no point in having that press conference if you are not going to provide any information other than to give the appearance of some sort of an attack without calling it terrorism. They did a really poor job of it since it looks like press conference of liars out of a bad movie.

Notice when they say shots were fired they never say by whom to make it seem like it was the woman firing the shots. Nor do they say how the police officer was hurt. The reporters seemed to focus on the terrorism aspect. No one asked how the child was hurt nor the typical questions a normal individual would ask.

"My understanding is there was a 1-year-old child in the car," Dine said. "I believe one of our officers rescued the child," who was taken to a hospital.

Michael McCaul, the chairman of the House of Representatives Homeland Security Committee, told CNN that officials believe the woman driving the car in Thursday's incident may have had mental health problems.

"I got that from multiple sources - that they think she may have had some mental health issues," he said. "Obviously the way she responded at the gate near the White House and then turning around and hitting Secret Service."

The woman was a resident of Connecticut and the girl in the car was her daughter, McCaul said.

When the shooting erupted, lawmakers were trying to find a solution to a budget impasse that partially shut down the U.S. government this week. The Capitol was locked down for about an hour during the incident.

Lawmakers were told to shelter in place on the floor of the House. Outside, some tourists were frightened.

"I was just eating a hot dog over here and I heard about four or five gunshots, and then a swarm of police cars came in wailing their sirens," said Whit Dabney, 13, who was visiting Washington from Louisville, Kentucky, and heard the shots a couple of blocks away.

Witness Travis Gilbert said several police cars chased the black sedan at high speed toward the Capitol.

"They ran all the red lights. It was a very dangerous situation," Gilbert said.

Two officers were hurt in Thursday's incident. One was a Secret Service officer who was struck by the suspect's car outside the White House, Donovan said.

The other was a Capitol Police officer whose car struck a barricade during the mid-afternoon chase. It ranged over about a mile and a half and lasted just a few minutes, officials said.

All the shooting appears to have been done by police; law enforcement sources said the suspect did not shoot a gun and there is no indication that she had one.

Dine said it appeared there was no connection to terrorism.

Just before the Capitol lockdown, Senator John McCain of Arizona was on the Senate floor urging that President Barack Obama and a bipartisan group of senators launch negotiations to break the deadlock over government funding and a debt limit increase.

The House had just passed a bill to fund the National Guard and reservists who are not on active duty during the shutdown.

The Capitol police, who were deemed "essential" staff, were at work despite the government shutdown, but they are not being paid.

"What really comes home to me is that these are all people who are working without pay right now," Representative Matt Cartwright, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, said on CNN. He was outside on a Capitol balcony when he said he heard seven or eight shots "all in less than a second."

Okay so that's a lot of bolding and underlining.

If you look at the car, the rear windshield is blown out. Unless they broke this in order to get to the child (why would they need to do that, though), we will assume that gunfire is responsible. Children that young tend to be in car seats. In the back. Where the glass is. Where bullets could easily go.

Despite the nauseating "they're heroes!" tone of parts of the article, I applaud it on containing some very interesting observations. Cartwright may have been trying to make the police out to be heroes but he said 7-8 shots. There are three possibilities. 1. He was told the woman was shooting at the cops, so he embellished the number to make it sound like they were even MORE heroic. 2. The cops shot this woman 7-8 times. 3. The cops shot AT this woman 7-8 times, missing with a number of shots, endangering pretty much everyone in the area.

The witness in the article pointed out what the real danger was. She was chased at high speed through the city, the cops running the red lights all the way.

Look at the car again. I realize there's no front-end shot in that article; I am attempting to find one. She RAMMED the barricade in an Infinity and it was still up for a dramatic chase for "several minutes" through Downtown DC? Rammed. She also rammed an officer. This car is unstoppable. No wonder our unpaid heroes had to shoot it.

She RAMMED the barricade in an Infinity and it was still up for a dramatic chase for "several minutes" through Downtown DC? Rammed. She also rammed an officer. This car is unstoppable. You will need to turn your volume up in the middle. I don't think this is the start of the "chase" (setting looks wrong) but at this point she looks to be trying to find a way the hell out of the area. I'm questioning why she was there. Also, the pictures of the front of the car that I have seen, don't really show any damage that shows me she was hitting the barriers in any fashion to get through. Especially in what looks like a $40,000+ car. I can perhaps understand her fleeing like that if she made a wrong turn and ended up down there (maybe she had a terrible sense of direction), with guns pointed at her car and a child in the backseat. I just want to know why a woman from Connecticut was in Washington DC with a young child, it's not exactly a short drive from I can tell.
