We Are the Media

For nearly 100-years the press in America has been controlled to some extent. However recently that has all changed with the increasing advancement of technology and the free-thinking approach of citizen journalism. Now, pretty much everyone with an Internet connection can have a voice and express themselves to some degree.

While for so long the media has been a tool of control because it was nearly impossible for the average person to speak their mind over a public platform. Even people who are lucky enough to become reporters at their local news station will likely still not be able to speak their own mind unless they want to risk being fired.

Now with the Internet, the barrier of entry has been lowered and anyone with an Internet connection or smart-phone can now share their point of view and their evidence, with their neighbors and with the world.

Instead of being passive observers of news and current events, people have taken matters into their own hands and are now becoming the media themselves. In the past few years, thousands of independent media organizations have been popping up, and some of them like the one that I founded actually allow the readers and viewers to become reporters. This is why we call Intellihub.com the “Civilian Intelligence Agency”.[1]

The low barrier to entry is a double-edged sword because it’s great to have more people involved, but it also means that people with bad information or intentional disinformation, i.e. agents, can easily infiltrate. keeping that in mind, we need to change the way we look at news and current events. We need to think critically and fact check every piece of information. We need to all get involved and become citizen journalists ourselves.

Hm. Abby Martin tore Rand up a bit regarding that relationship with elite media establishment that politicians maintain (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UKXpzdFQ_I)as well while reserving respect for Ron. She kind of placed him into the same basket with them by explaining how she was treated for practicing genuine journalism. I do like that Breaking the Set show. I think it demonstrates why her run in with Rand was so relevant to actually needing a rebirth of the fourth estate. Far too many politicians are in bed with mainstream media and the processes they dictate.

But yes. True alternative media that actually does dicuss the genuine issues of the day is and will continue rising. Cripes, Coast and RT blow every on of these cable corporations out of the water as far as ratings. When they start to merge discussion best to watch out if you tend to like to talk about silly stuff all day.

I like Abby Martin and she has a legitimate gripe. I was taken aback how Rand handled that situation she is referring to--which reminded me of the rest of the politicians in DC.
