I'm getting sick of the analogy that not raising the debt ceiling is like skipping out on your dinner tab. In that example the service has ALREADY been performed (eating your dinner) but you don't pay. Not raising the debt ceiling means we have to cancel FUTURE services. There's a huge difference. A more accurate analogy would be that you cancel your plans to eat out because you realize you're broke. That would be the responsible thing to do. What the government wants to do is go out to eat even though they know they're broke and just borrow or print the money to pay for it. And they call that being "responsible".
