A Racine County, Wisconsin judge banned Jeffrey Ehlers, 17, from playing video games after he attacked his mother when she unplugged his PS3 on Sunday.

His mother told the police that he was raging and swearing at a game he was losing at and she wanted him to stop. When he didn’t listen, his mother unplugged his console.

Ehlers was tried as an adult and charged with disorderly conduct. If convicted, he can serve up to 90 days in prison.

That Judge better watch out, if he attacked his own mother over a game, just think what he will do to a stranger. Yes he should be punished, but no he shouldn't be denied the right to ever play video games again. It is not the games fault for his behavior, it is his fault.

What kind of sick fuck calls the cops over an irate teenager?

My mother is barely 5' tall and I can assure you she didn't put up with any BS from any of us kids...No cops required.

I'd have put my mother in the hospital if she did that to me, and I love my mother and never fight or get angry with her.

Jeffrey is a good kid, that mother needs the punishment.

SPANKINGS?

My folks used to turn off my NES all the time - I never attacked them - because they had reared me right and to treat them with respect! If this kid goes nuts, he probably shouldn't be playing the games, but it should be his parent's decision, not the State's.

...now when my brother turned off the power, it was a different story...

SPANKINGS?
Agreed, that's probably the reason why he was violent. She spanked him.

Oh that's not what you meant?

I bet if you did any sort of real research you'd find that kids who were promptly disiplined starting at a young age are less likely to disrespect their parents and act out like this kid did.

Yes I mean spankings when appropriate.

I spank my little girl when she blatantly disobeys- early success ( like 14mo old or so) taught her biting is wrong. She thought we were joking and it was funny when we said NO, but that stinging slap on the rear changed that. She hasn't bit since- she's 24m now. And the threat of a spanking when she is acting out usually does the trick. She listens to me now, and a simple timeout is typical punishment for minor trouble.

Edit to add that probably the lack of early disipline is probably the reason mom can't control her little video game addict.

...and on, and on, and on...

Slave owners used to 'spank' their slaves to 'discipline' them too.

Children, especially young children, are relatively defenseless and dependent. ACEs, including the physical initiation of violence, have been linked to and correlate with increased risk factors for all kinds of problems in adolescence and adulthood. And this makes perfect sense to anyone with half a brain regardless of all the science and studies that have been done to back it up. Violence begets violence. Who knew? Don't punish your kid because you refuse to summon the capacity to find solutions that don't involve hitting them. How would you like it if people went around and smacked you every time you acted up? Nothing about this is conducive with the philosophy of liberty--practice what you preach. Violent solutions aren't solutions at all.

I disagree with the anti-spanking crowd.

Some kids need spanked sometimes.

Some adults need their ass whupped sometimes.

To make simplistic blanket statements backed by psychobabble points directly to lack of real life experience.

Not all kids need spanked, not all adults need their ass kicked, but to say none do is ridiculous.

I don't believe none of that shit you just posted.

Completely disregards a myriad of other factors that could also influence the "negative" consequences - violent TV, medicated children, other undisiplined children being bad influence, violent video games, aggressive school sports, locking children in a prison all day with a room full of other children (school).

Besides, I still don't believe any of that shit.

Comparing fully grown and developed adults to dependent and relatively defenseless children.
Disregarding conclusions based on empirical data, reason, and evidence.
Promoting violence.

My child is routinely bragged on by people about how well behaved and respectful she is towards everyone. Have you ever seen a 2 year old that says "yes mam" and please and thank you, to everything? She is compassionate and happy and full of love. She tripped over a babysitters dog, fell over and scratched her knee to a bleed, and her hands too. And was instantly up telling the dog sorry sorry. Are you ok? Are you ok??

Good parenting over here, and I don't give a rats ass what anyone thinks about it- I know what's right and what's not. Don't need your gov funded studies to try and tell me how to raise my young.

Repeating psychobabble doesn't make it any more realistic.

Nice try though...

Wait until you have kids.
