View Full Version : Blake Shelton, Westboro Baptists' Latest Target, Is The Opposite Of Scared

Despite the stunning failure of their recent protest at a Ke$ha concert, (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/08/19/westboro-baptists-kesha-dancers_n_3782051.html) the Westboro Baptist Church is at it again, announcing its intentions to picket the next performance (http://www.examiner.com/article/blake-shelton-targeted-by-westboro-baptist-church-picket-scheduled-at-concert) of The Voice judge Blake Shelton on October 3 in Kansas City.

In characteristic fashion, the Westboro Baptist Church has been furiously tweeting accusations and slurs at Shelton, accompanied by the declaration (https://twitter.com/WBCSays/status/382867031218860032), "We know BS when we see it!"

According to WBC's logic (https://twitter.com/WBCSays/status/383049397342183424), Shelton's divorce from his first wife Kaynette Williams and subsequent marriage to Miranda Lambert makes him "a vulgar adulterer," which is why gay marriage is now legal in some states.

To which Shelton replied (https://twitter.com/blakeshelton/status/382931972936695808), "Hey WBC.. I've got one more sin for ya... Blow me."

He succinctly added,
383043934974668800

Well said.

Shelton isn't the only country star that the WBC has gone after in recent weeks. They set up a protest outside of iconic country star Vince Gill's concert on September 8 (http://www.christianpost.com/news/iconic-country-star-blasts-westboro-baptist-church-for-accusing-him-of-adultery-104292/) to harass him about his divorce and subsequent remarriage.

"Don't you know that divorce plus remarriage equals adultery?" asked one of the picketers. "Jesus Christ said that."

"Did he?" Gill responded. "You know what else he said? He said a lot of stuff about forgiveness, about grace. You guys don't have any of that."

The Media has a strange obsession with the WBC, they're a completely irrelevant organization.

Blake's twitter exchanges with them are hilarious.

This. It's like a half-dozen people. The U.S. Prohibition Party is a more relevant entity at this point. Why does the media continue to give this tiny group of losers so much coverage?

Sounds like Marc Carpenter:p

Which, since Sola is apparently recommending him again, despite the fact that I've already pointed out that Sola_Fide himself is not "Calvinistic" enough for them (If you're sane, please don't ask) and you're now discussing the WBC, I thought I'd post this conversation between Marc Carpenter and Ben Phelps for anyone who wants to see what happens when you put two radical nutjobs in a conversation with each other:

Absurd idiocy on both fronts:p

I posted my little link for fun, but ultimately, you're right. I think its to try to create an emotional argument for "hate speech" laws.

Wait, why is this in Gen. Politics? I don't see how this is a political issue, unless someone here takes the WBC as a serious poltiical entity (Which I know Cajun does not.)

Yes, interesting that you noticed that. Why is the media hyping everything they do?

Where are these comments when it's a small group of people being stupid against something that fits your agenda? If it were a small group of irrelevant people attacking Christians, the thread would be riddled with comments about how Christians are always being persecuted and how these people need to be lynched or some bullshit. Gotta keep it consistent.

No it wouldn't. Get over yourself.

Christians are sometimes persecuted, and often by other people calling themselves Christians.

Exactly right. Great response by Vince.

Yep...

BTW: While I agree that to get remarried after a divorce is adultery (Although I'm uncertain of what I believe with regards to divorces that occur because of adultery, I can see both sides of that argument) but I would say that once you do get remarried, you are obligated to stay with your spouse. Remaining married to the person you are married to is never adultery.

The WBC hasn't violently attacked anyone yet, if they had then they would be much more relevant. The way the media spins it you'd think they were a large group with supporters across the country.

Because it makes conservatives look crazy. I am sure there is some small, irrelevant leftist group out there that occasionally does outrageous things, but you would never, ever hear about it.

A thread posted by the same person I quoted: Link (Pro-abortion protesters in Texas chant “Hail Satan”)
Now, why would he make the comment he made here, yet also bring attention to this video that was circling a lot of conservative sites at the time of an even pettier thing? While also blowing it out of proportion to the point where it's entirely misleading, no less.

If you're going to post bullshit, don't thread whine when you don't like a particular story that's being shared because "the media is always giving this small group of people so much coverage!" Didn't see him complaining when the conservative media gave that stupid video clip he posted a lot of attention, trying to draw the false conclusion that all pro-choicers are Satan-worshiping heathens.

When you make a scene like the WBC tends to do, especially spreading hatred, why wouldn't the media pick up on it? It's a no-brainer and probably gets lots of page hits because of how absurd the WBC is.
