Only the top 2 candidates were allowed in the debate. So far, both candidates have praised gun control. Otherwise, VA Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli (R) is more pro-liberty than business leader Terry McAuliffe (D) on the issues. Well, even on the gun issue, Cuccinelli is a lot better, even if he supports gun control.

2 major issues seem to be medicaid expansion with McAuliffe in favor and Cuccinelli opposed.
Additional, it's not actually a major issues, but McAuliffe was 1 of only 3 AGs in the entire nation to not come out in support of the violence against women act.
McAuliffe is also hitting Cuccinelli for his support of lower taxing.
Cuccinelli pointed out that McAuliffe said he would sign an illegal bill doing what most people in VA want, allowing adults to get a same-sex government marriage.

I think Cuccinelli's social conservatism might cost him this winnable election.

He is losing according to the most recent polls. I doubt this debate will change that. He did seem personable when he made a joke about football, though.

Both candidates are terrible. Cuccinelli is way too statist on social issues and the Star Scientific scandal has exposed him for the corrupt politician he really is. Robert Sarvis is way more qualified than either of these two goons and will be getting my vote. We've got a month and a half to go and Sarvis is polling at 21% in my congressional district (VA-4) and 24% in VA-5 (Eric Cantor's district). He's steadily gaining in the polls while the other 2 are steadily losing.

This stuff about Cuccinelli being a social statist reeks of liberal propaganda.

If Cuccinelli wins he will be by far the best governor in the US.

Just because he took a $18,000 gift from a company he had official government business with... OK yes, even though he gave the money back, he is clearly very corrupt. Still, didn't the Republican governor of VA do even worse. If it weren't for those two rather significant scandals, he would likely be in the lead. Which would be nice. He is much better than the average GOP nominee for governor in the US. Too bad about his love of money.

He gave the money back...after he got caught. It's not like Jonnie Williams is an upstanding citizen. Picture a used car salesman and you've got a good snapshot of the type of person he is. These guys wouldn't have anything to do with him if they weren't shady themselves. Cuccinelli is not one of us, so don't let him being good on a few issues fool you. That's kind of like saying Glenn Beck is one of us because we agree with him on a few issues as well. If you've been paying attention to him over the last few years, you'd know he's terrible on more issues than he's good on. Sarvis wouldn't be polling in double digits across the state and over 20% in central VA if either of the other two candidates were worth a damn.

The bifactional ruling party hates competition.

Politically, he will be well above average. Maybe up there with the governors of ID or IN even. He might be as corrupt as a typical governor from LA, NJ or IL, though :( This reminds he of Stanford, except Sanford was better on the issues.

THIS. I think Sarvis might get double digits at the end of this race. Regardless of the outcome of the race, Sarvis has a good future ahead of him.
